By what measure shall a poem be gauged
be it assayed in meters, feet or pounds?
Should there be battles of brilliance? Rounds?
Is poetry immense on the published written page?
Being paid by the verse earns a pauper’s wage,
unless converted to lyrical sounds.
But musical muse has its ups and downs,
subject to mercurial whim, all the rage.
So what to make of this quixotic flourish,
can seraphs be ground, measured and weighed?
Surely there’s a way to bottle fine rhyme.
Poets are spirits with guides beyond tourists.
Inventions poured through emotions displayed,
boundless treasure, their art beats in time.
