Me? Well I worked in local government for most of my life. I retired 4 yrs ago from the Ministry of Defence where I had been a cartographer, a job I absolutely loved.
Now I get up when I like and stay up late most nights writing poetry or reading the great works that can be found on AP. I have been writing poems for many years off and on. I had one published when I was about 10 years old but haven't really thought seriously about it until I stumbled accross AP in March 07.
Now since finding this site, I am hooked.
The contests are such a challenge they are a really good way of getting people to express themselves.
I enjoy art. I like to paint landscapes and then I add free-machine embroidery. I have had many exhibitions in the past, here in the uk. Now I sell them through a gallery in Cyprus where I have a lovely old stone house.I go there as often as I can. It's a very peaceful house and very inspirational.

Some philosophy from my spirit guide:
Our Chosen Path
Sometimes we find that our lives have arrived at a crossroads. We don’t know which road to take because each direction appears to have a gate across it, barring our way.
Our hands feel as if they are tied. Our feet feel as though they are in quicksand, and we are unable to move in any direction and yet we are too frightened to stand still because we might sink even further into the quicksand that is pulling us down.
The voice in our head is giving us no answers. It is only piling more questions on top of the ones already there.
Just because we can see roads to the left, roads to the right, ahead or even back along a path already trod, doesn’t mean to say you have to choose one right at this moment.
It is time to rest.
Look down at your hands. Where are the bonds? Are they there or are they imagined?
Look down at your feet. Where is the quicksand? There is none. It only feels like quicksand because of the heavy burden that you have decided to carry.
We make our own bonds, our own quicksand. The weight that we carry through life is of our own making.
The first thing to do is to put down the heavy weight.
If you look along the road that appears the darkest what do you see? Anything or is it too dark?
What about the other roads, are some brighter? Is there a light down any of them that might guide you?
Can you see a hand down any of them, a hand ready to take yours to help and support you for a while.
Take one step forward, just one, down the route less dark. Reach for that hand and hold it just for a while, until it gets lighter.
Each new dawn lights a pathway, where only hours earlier it was dark and frightening.
There is no written law anywhere that says that you have to walk in the dark, alone and with life’s weight on your shoulders.
Take the hand that’s offered and wait until dawn.

Refresh The Soul
Tears are never wasted. Tears refresh the soul.
The earth may look dry and barren, but just beneath
the surface lie tiny seeds, ready to germinate.
To be able to thrive they need love and tender care.
Think of tears as their irrigation; once the tears are shed, let them go.
Green shoots always appear after a shower of rain.
The soil is never too barren.
There is always something ready to grow and worth nurturing.
But left un-cared for, even new shoots will eventually wither and die.
So, re-fresh the soul and take time to grow.

A Moment in Time
Life is just a moment in time.
A tiny star in a huge, endless galaxy.
One small bubble,
bursting on the surface of the water.
Only to be replaced by a thousand others.
As you breathe in, so you breathe out.
And there, that’s the moment gone.
Did you enjoy that moment.
Or were you already racing to see
what is around the next corner.
Missing all the beauty that is passing you by.
Can you be so certain that each leaf that
crumbles in the Autumn,
will surely be replaced in the Spring.
Relax in today.
Don't rush forward to tomorrow.
Moments are just that - moments.

Yet each man kills the thing he loves,
By each let this be heard,
Some do it with a bitter look,
Some with a flattering word,
The coward does it with a kiss,
The brave man with a sword!

Recluse Writer : Time for you to reach out ...MWAH on June 21A Step At a Time
(penned by 'passim' when I needed her)
It’s tough when life is such a pace
that problems seem so hard to face.
Attempts to join the world outside
get clouded by the wish to hide.
The world’s so big, we know it’s true,
but not with friends surrounding you.
We want to help you find your muse.
Give it a try; what’s there to lose?
That world out there inspires your rhyme
Just take it one step at a time.
So come on hon. pick up that pen.
It’s time you joined us once again.
We’ve waited here for quite a while;
we’re staying till we see that smile.
So hey, we’re here, we understand;
We’ll tread real slow, just grab our hand.

Enira on March 17I love your author page! I especially enjoyed reading the "Refresh the Soul" poem on your main page. I love how it illustrates how crying is healing. I believe that when you cry, you are not weak, but strong and healing. You are doing your soul a favor by crying once in a while and it helps you to remain strong.
