Jose Maria Eguren was a Peruvian poet, born in 1882. He was originally devoted to the modernismo. Moderismo was a movement in Spanish literature which originated in Latin America and derived from French symbolism.
Eguren's poetry uses a delicate vocabulary and smetimes has a musical, if not obscure, quality. His strange images, symbols, and dreamlike visions are wrought into a framework of formal perfection.
He led quite a solitary existence and spent his time making exlorations in order to observe nature, paint watercolors and to take photographs, in order to gain inspiration.
His best known poetry collections are: Simbólicas (1911), La canción de las figuras (1916) and Poesías (1929).
He died in 1942.
