The French pseudonym of: the sepia vitamin

peut-être, je n'avais rien

de mieux à dire

que de faire une traduction libre

de la lampadaire lorsqu'elle rencontre la brume

pendant ce temps qu'on ne sait plus

si on devrait l'appeler soir ou matin

lorsqu'on écoutait le décalage

entre les automobiles qui passent

et un voisin qui avait trop à dire

mais pas assez, jamais assez

pour m'inquiéter de lui

autant que celle qui ne faisait

que pousser des soupirs, chaque matin

à l'arrêt d'autobus avec, dans ses mains,

un café tiède et un journal gratuit

qu'elle ne lisait plus

tant qu'elle ne pouvait

faire évaporer la rosée

qui s'était accumulée sur ses joues

en attendant que ce voisin

avec trop à dire lui donne

une raison de parler.

maybe, i had nothing
better to say

than to do a free translation
of the streetlight when she met fog
during these hours when we didn't know
if we should call it night or morning
when we were listening to the intervals
between the cars that went by
& a neighbour who had too much to say

though not enough, never enough
to make me worry about him

as much as the one who did nothing
but utter sighs, each morning
at the book stop with, in her hands,
a lukewarm coffee & a free newspaper
she didn't read anymore

as long as she couldn't
make the dew evaporate
that had accumulated on her cheeks

while waiting for that neighbour
with too much to say to give her
a reason to speak.

En ce moment, je prends un cours de création littéraire (en français) puis il me semblait que j'avais peut-être besoin d'une excuse pour écrire en français plus souvent.  Voici cette excuse.

Toutes ces pièces auront une traduction en dessous, pour que tous puissent comprendre, mais seront écrites tout d'abord en français.

Right now, I'm taking a creative writing class (in French) and it seemed that I might need an excuse to write in French more often. This is my excuse.

All the pieces here will have an English translation underneath, so that all can understand it, though they will all have been written in French first.
