I have been writing poetry on and off for most of my life. I have found it an easy way to express myself. I would rather write than talk. Most of my work comes from my life. I had a very tough childhood. My father passed away when I was 5. I lived in poverty conditions all through high school and was extremely shy. I turned to sports to get me by. I met a enchanting gal while attending college who brought out the best in me and still does.
Why Nike?
My friends call me Neeko, my real name is Nick,
My childhood, a nightmare being called Nick the D* .
So I wanted a name to reflect the real me,
I’m very athletic so I picked Nike.
It sounded just right cause I’ve got the goods,
Just Like Michael Jordan, before Tiger Woods.
On top of my game I can lay down the lines.
Brought many to tears, with the words in my rhymes.
But I should have done just one little thing,
Researched the word Nike to see what it means.
Nike, it seems, is the Goddess of winning.
She’s not some old dude whose hair is now thinning.
So now I’m a man who has a girl’s name.
It’s to late to change so I’ll live with the pain.
So I will keep writing, there’s no need to hide
And start to display my feminine side.
My wife is the love of my life and she is the recipient of most of my work.
I have written poems for a lot of my friends. My wife has often volunteered me to her friends to compose poetic clues for scavenger hunts they have held for birthday parties. It is truely a gift from God so I enjoy sharing it with as many people as possible.

Hi. I just read your work, "Masterpiece," which I enjoyed thoroughly. I'm also very sorry about your losses and I have to say that I've never experienced that kind of pain. I was also wondering if your username is for the shoe company or the god...either is wicked cool. Anyway, I really liked your poem.
