"Poetry is by necessity a unique instance of language."
- Paul Celan
"Poetry is what gets lost in translation."
- Robert Frost
What is poetry? What is prose?
A poem is a gift to the Other.
Someone we may have passed on the street.
Or maybe an old friend.
Someone you met along the way.
A poem is a song without words.
A poem is a gift for the future
and for the past.
A poem is an invitation to the Reader -
a Reader who is a friend you would like to meet.
A poem is a butterfly, a rainbow, a greeting...

Ralph Waldo Ellison once wrote,
"America is woven of many strands.
I would recognize them and let it so remain.
Our fate is to become one, and yet many.
This is not prophecy, but description."
