I once heard it said that you are not a writer unless you're writing, you're not a painter unless you're painting, you are not a musician unless you're making music, and you're not a poet if you are not writing poetry. With that said, I think that perhaps I am not a true poet in the sense of the word. Real poets, like real musicians and painters, practice their craft on a daily basis or at least on a more routine schedule. My poetry and other writings come to me in spurts; the right elements of inspiration must be in place in my mind and heart for my words to flow out onto paper.
Aside from poetry and other writing, I spend a lot of my time enjoying other activities. I love music and baseball more than anything after my Savior Jesus and my family & friends. I listen to a variety of genres such as classic rock, today's hits, oldies, big band, swing, country, classical, and a teensy bit of jazz and Celtic. Baseball as I mentioned is a passion of mine. I've been a student manager since my junior year of high school and the 2008 season will be my first season off at the college and I didn't participate in city league this past summer. I am in love with the thrill of the game and coming from behind to win, the smell of pine tar and a mitt, the beauty of a perfect at bat and a great slide, and the joy that comes from the commraderie. GO LCC Stars! GO Detroit Tigers!
Admittingly I am a tv junkie to a degree. My tv is usually on CBS, TV Land, Tru TV (Court Tv), FOX Sports, and ESPN. When I'm not watching tv I am usually making greeting cards, out with friends or family, scrapbooking, soap making, or cooking. Photography has also become a favorite passtime of mine and I'd really like to devote more time to it. Teaching is something else I enjoy doing, especially in church with the children and teens.
