*"landscapes and shadows*" (joy)
we each have a landscape
it comes with us at birth.
in it we are both artist and observer.
sometimes we can see,
as if travelling on a train,
our landscape passing us.
but we are in it
and what we see is so swiftly
we have no time to modify.
sometimes I pick up my landscape
and place it upon part of yours
so that it rests like a cloud shadow.
but your landscape has been superimposed
by another which fits imperfectly
upon the pattern which is yours.
you do not know this for your cannot see
the shadow of the imposition
because you are part of your landscape
and the shadow is so vast,
so warm, so comforting,
that it obscures your landscape
in a mist of unseeing.
