I've been writing poems since my High School days on and off. I have no style. I rhyme my poems often but not always. I try to follow a pattern but not always. I've written a few in tetrameter and iambic pentameter. Many of my poems are spiritual (Christian) but not all. I usually write feelings rather than describe tangle objects like nature or people's faces. I like to write story poems and poems with message or point to them. Many of my poems are positive and upbeat but some reflect my more melancholy side.

Me May 2009

I am a Christian, so my poems often reflect those values. I am very passionate about parents spending time with their children. I love children. I have none of my own but I have 3 wonderful nephews and 3 wonderful nieces.

I am a classic movies fan and host a message board for classic movies classicfilmcafe.proboards30.com/ I'm a big fan of Audrey Hepburn and have written a few poems in her honor. I'm also a fan of Jimmy Stewart and many other classic stars.

I enjoy water skiing and jogging. I enjoy reading a good book or a good movie (modern ones included).
I love music. I think some of the best poets are song writers. You'll find I'll quote them when your poem reminds me of a song. I especially like Neil Diamond's, Dan Fogelberg's, and Paul Simon's poetry.
I also have a poetry message board thepoetscorner.proboards30.com/ and a Christian message board christianscafe.proboards30.com/.
I try to be positive and helpful in my criticisms and hope you'll do the same for me. I do not claim to be an expert, but I'll be as honest as I can about your poems and how they impressed me.
I haven't gotten rich from my poetry but I have sold a few as gift items. This may only show that poems don't have to be great just marketable.

The past is there to remind us
Of who we were in times gone by
But the past does not define us
Like a ghost you can sense its wrath
Like the wind you hear its lament
But it will not hinder your path
I am what I am in the present moment
Though influenced by the past
I am neither its slave nor its servant
Our past does not define us but it certainly helps shape who we are. I think we are most affected by our tragedies and triumphs. Here are mine.
Tragedies
My dad had cancer over 10 years ago. He's still alive, but has suffered consequences from the treatments. Poem on Facing Cancer
My cousin's second child was murdered by his babysitter when he was only 18 months old. I had met and held this baby boy soon after he was born.
When a child dies,
It seems the world cries.
Sweet innocence this day
Has been taken away.
All souls are filled with sorrow,
Making it hard to go on to tomorrow.
Everyone feels such sadness,
Wondering why this horrible madness.
What makes this day even worse
Is that this painful curse
By such violence came to be.
It's hard to grasp such absurdity.
When a little baby dies,
It seems the world cries.
Sweet innocence this day
Has been taken away.
My nephew stopped breathing when he was 18 months old. He had to helicoptered away to a better hospital. He survived and is now a teen, but it gave us quite a scare.

Oh precious child not even two
How it hurt to almost loose you.
Seeing you lying on that bed,
Alive but appearing nearly dead,
Was more than we could endure,
We feared we might loose you for sure.
By your side constantly we stayed.
As we held your little hand and prayed.
"Oh Lord of heaven and earth,
From the day of this child's birth,
To us, such happiness did his life convey!
Please, don't take our little one away!"
We are so thankful you are still around.
Happiness in our lives once again abounds.
We rejoice that you are still here
And that we can again hold you near.
We are thankful that you could stay
And that the Lord didn't take you away!
My closest friend and mentor committed suicide in my house. I had fought hard to save his life by getting him to the psychiatric help he needed. List of Poems on the Suicide
A man I trusted to be my spiritual mentor started dating a woman whom I loved dearly. I had been seeking his advice as to what to do with my feelings especially since she was recently divorced. Poems about the Woman Poems about the betrayal

I suffered for years under the slavery of a besetting sin. God graciously has given me victory and I have been walking in freedom for over a year.

Maureen : Hi! on March 25Enjoyed looking at and reading your page! I recently sent the bible quote from Philippians 4:6 or 8 (I forget which) to a friend of mine. It taught me to be careful what I think about (very good advice). I see you admire Audrey Hepburn. I do, too! My tribute to her is at YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhEod_ZyupA Hope you enjoy it if you watch it! Have a great day! <3 Maureen
