Marc creamoreShow poetry

I've been playing the poetry game for 35 years, slowly trying to bring forth the inner voice that I believe is in each and every one of us.  Over the years I have experimented with varying styles . . . from Asian understatement to bombastic beat explosiveness and although my influences are many, I have hopefully been able to nurture my own style, my own way of self expression. Since 1999 I have published five books of my own work.

NEW RELEASE (available through Alibris online) :

NOTES FROM THE ABANDONED ORCHARD OF THE MOON

"Marc Creamore sees the city/planet/universe through the wise eyes of an innocent child.  He shifts the vagaries of modern existence through a mind that is open to unfortunate reality, yet able to enliven the seemingly barren future with shades of hope.  Eastern philosophy seems to enwrap his visage, his voice, with the calm of an elder and the wonder of a child."

- from the Forward by Rob Ganson,

author of Float Like A Butterfly, Sing Like A Tree

"Marc Creamore's truth becomes your own the moment you read his words and feel his beauty, his depth of observation, his magnitude of wonder, his painful raging at the damage Mankind has done to this world and to the people that breathe upon its shores.  His poetry will enlighten you, educate you, enthrall you with its memorable and majestic messages..."

- Wanda Lea Brayton,

author of Swanee Sighs

LITERARY INFLUENCES

The poetry of Ryokan, a Japanese poet/priest of two centuries ago . . .
The beat writers Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso and Jack Kerouac who taught me that first impulse is paramount if one is to reach the core of the individual voice . . .
The Taoist poets Li Po, Tu Fu and T'ao Ch'ien who gave me the moon and the frog and the essence of rainfall . . .
Others that I have come to admire include Kenneth Patchen,
Lorca, St John Perse, Michael McClure and our own, Rob Ganson.

MUSICAL INFLUENCES

Initially Bob Dylan, John Lennon and The Incredible String Band . . . later on Tom Rapp and Pearls Before Swine, Phil Ochs, Judy Collins, Richie Havens, Mark Heard and a whole host of singer/songwriters that could possibly take 10 pages to list conclusively.
More recently I find myself drawn to David Tibet and his band Current 93 as well as Tom Waits, the classical music of Arvo Part, Peter Green blues and the modern folk styling of artists like Jackie Greene, Joseph Arthur and Jeremy Enigk.

PHILOSOPHICAL INFLUENCES

The contemplative thought of the ancient Asian traditions, as well as the tenets of Buddhism and Taoism. Also a mixture of Native North American nature worship, Catholic mystics like Thomas Merton and Joseph Campbell's many texts on global mythology.

MUST READS

A couple of poets that I highly recommend on this site are LadyLavender and Lyrical Soul . . . both are metaphorically beautiful and show a great deal of compassion in their writing.
Also, of late, I have been blessed to have come across the poetry of shewolfnative . . . her words have a way of entering at the deepest corridors of the soul and have touched me in a most profound way.
The longer I explore this wonderful site the more I am impressed with it . . . thus I must add a few more MUST READS to my rapidly growing list of admired poets . . . please consider the work of Night Hope, Nicolette, Zayra and Bluepoeticflame . . . their words will inspire and captivate you, of this I am certain.
Oh yes . . . on and on it goes, my list of admired poets on this site . . . here are a couple more that should be seriously looked into: Dalaney34 and Just Rob . . . two differing styles, but both poetically talented and inspiring with the beauty of their words and their spiritual integrity. Just Rob is the best kept secret writing in America today!

A NOTE OF THANK YOU

Although I have only been on this site for a short time I am humbled and deeply touched by the response thus far to my work. It is gratifying to realize that all the years of internally trying to come to terms with both myself and the outside world have been worth it. The poet's life can be a solitary and lonely one, but through the kindness of others on this site I am beginning to understand that perhaps one is not so isolated after all. I thank every one of you who has responded to my writing, it is oh so very much appreciated.
