"If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England"
rupert brookes (the soldier)
above is the only piece of poetry I can ever remember being taught
all the rest of my poetic influence has been either proverb or song lyric...
oh, and, of course...
"o romeo
romeo
wherefore art thou romeo?"
"whether you think you can or you think you can't,you're right"
henry ford
"hard work without talent is a shame,
talent without hard work is a tragedy"
robert half
"if you are a big tree, we are a small axe
sharpened to cut you down, ready to cut you down"
bob marley (small axe)
"we all are one
we are the same person
I'll be you, you be me
we all are the
same universal world"
jimmy cliff (we all are one)
"Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head"
talking heads - david byrne (naive melody)
"take the man in the white cloak
a pointed mask to hide his face
murders in the name of religion
if you're not the right colour or race
take the man in the black coat
he's holding justice in his hands
let's the man in the white cloak go
and calls it the law of the land"
ub40 (love is alright)
"why boasteth thyself, oh evil men, playing smart and not being clever...
I say you're living iniquity, to achieve vanity"
bob marley (small axe)
"It's obvious the trouble we're in
When your father pulls up in a Mercedes Benz
He says he just happened to be in the neighborhood
But before he leaves he slips the landlord the rent
You say, "It's just a question of eliminating
obstacles"
As you throw your dinner out the kitchen door
You say, "I know how you try"
But honey, let's eat out tonight
sheryl crow (no one said it would be easy)
UB40 - The Pillow
A smile for every passing car
And when they stop with door ajar
She shrugs and whispers que sera
And turns her thoughts to the pillow
Her face is etched with memories
She finds no joy amid the sleaze
It's hard when you've been paid to please
So she turns her thoughts to the pillow
[Chorus:]
Daylight comes she rests her head
The beauty of an empty bed
She dreams of happy days instead
Of brooding on tomorrow
She swapped her dreams of shining knights
For pushers, bars and money fights
For nameless faces in red light
So she turns her head to the pillow
Those black eyes don't hurt any more
She's heard the jokes and jibes before
She's felt the long arm of the law
So she turns her head to the pillow
[Chorus]
Taking drugs was not for fun
It made her feel like going on
But now she hurts when its all gone
And she turns her head to the pillow
She takes a blade and breaks her skin
Sweet life force flows from within
The white clouds in her head grow dim
And she turns her head to the pillow
[Chorus]
Sunlight creeps across her head
Pale beauty in a crimson bed
No dreams of happy days ahead
She'll have no more tomorrows
She Was Only 5..this is sad!
Her dad was a drunk
Her mom was an addict
Her parents kept her
Locked in an attic
Her only friend
was a little toy bear
It was old and worn out
And had patches of hair
She always talked to it
When no one's around
She lays there and hugs it
Not a peep of sound
Until her parents
unlock the door
Some more and more pain
She'll have to endure
A bruise on her leg
A scar on her face
Why would she be
In such a horrible place?
But she grabs her bear
And softly cries
She loves her parents
But they want her to die
She sits in the corner
Quiet but thinking,
"Please God, why is
My life always sinking? "
Such a bad life
For a sad little kid
She'd get beaten and beaten
For anything she did
Then one night
Her mom came home high
And the poor child was beaten
As hours went by
Then her mom suddenly
Grabbed for a blade
It was sharp and pointy
One that she made
She thrusted the blade
Right in her chest,
"You deserve to die
You worthless piece of !
The mom walked out
Leaving the girl slowly dying
She grabbed her bear
And again started crying
Police showed up
At the small little house
Then quickly barged in
Everything quiet as a mouse
One officer slowly
Opened a door
To find the little girl
Lying dead on the floor
It must have been bad
To go through so much harm
But at least she died
With her best friend in her arms
A child dies every day from child abuse.
And if you have an ounce of pity in you for Auroura (the little girl),
and you hate child abuse with a passion,
you will repost this and help out those abused children,
and let them know that someone cares for them.
It doesn't take that long only about 10 seconds
so please just do it.:
