This Is The Woman I Am
(author is Sharon Shahan)

"My mouth is the calyx
of an ordinary rose,
five toothed sepal
supported by jawbone,
my slender throat
a viridian stem.
My elliptic breasts are
darker lobes of green,
viscous by design,
sprouted from axis.
I am scarlet hips crushed
up against corolla pale, soft
pink blushes, the color
of my skin when closed.
It is moist where earth
meets delicate wrists,
tiny annulets of soil crown
my fingers, I am jeweled
to grow wild the receptacle
of unearthly things, part
evolution, secretly insane." ©

Proud of my Southern heritage and strong women forebears, I am a wife, mother and "young grandmother." I enjoy the outdoors, music, reading, cooking, pampering my cats, and spending time with family and friends. One of my favorite pastimes is composing nature poems--personifying garden's flowers into darling, little belles--a Victorian-style journal I am compiling.

My truest inspiration comes from the spiritual, poetic passages of the Song of Solomon, my favorite book of the Bible. I am addicted to structured poetry in most genres (formal and short, rhyming or non-rhyming) and enjoy experimenting with meter.

Poems written for me by AP Poets:

By Lyndon of the Winklings
My favorite little bird
Artistically flits in verse.

Bird among flowers heard;
Energetic among acrostics or worse ~
Lazily floating among sonnets;
Literati girl of gardens and bonnets,
Edging bluebells; eglantine coronets.

M ystical sounds caressing the air
I look for the notes and suddenly find
A nnabelle sitting under a tree
Fairies and angels standing behind

B utterflies gather around her heart
A poem she's reading to the flowers around
E nchanted by her nectar-filled words
They dance with delight to this heavenly sound
L ilies sway to the song of her soul
Roses spread perfume in abundance for all
L istening with supreme joy and bliss
At the feet of the majestic waterfall
E nlightening is her masterful art
Rejoicing all beings and filling my heart

In Your Garden by capricornpoet
Spring's come with its soft melody
Lend your ear to its gentle hum
Of brooks trickling dreams
And scents of lilies and peonies

Do you hear the robin sing
It's come to stir you heartstrings
Hummingbirds those glimmer fairies
Savoring each goblet on strings

In your garden southern belle
Of flowers, villanelles and triolets
You'll whisper sonnets to bonnets
Keeping a wishing well, where secrets dwell

Write me a spell dipped on your quill
Stir a sonnet in my midnight air
Tell the robin to hurry, at your will
From your garden this wish he ferries

Green Of The Irish by capricornpoet
Moors of long ago haunted by sea urchins
A tale of magic spun as seaferers landed
Being enchanted by an Island lush with greens
Ere unicorns and elfins dwelled
Longing for companions from afar
Leaving their legends and tales
Eden of the Irish and land of MaBelle

So she spun her stories and tales
Poets came to rest under her lapels
Listening to her sonnets she spun like a spell
Wondering if in those green eyes
Love was her sorecery so wise
