Advice on how to do things on OP

  • Oldpoetry is basically a site with poems by OLD poets. Those that are out of copyright and hard to find. We do have a few by authors after 1950 but not many and only those with a solid reputation and generous copyright holders.
We are here primarily for fun but many readers, especially students, find it a useful project resource.
As you are aware it is a free site. No user charges.
  • Oldpoetry is a free site run by volunteers who enjoy poetry for people who also enjoy poetry.

We want to pass on our love of poetry and give a single point of reference for the many fine poets from all over the world who have contributed to the development of the genre.
That includes well known poets such as Chaucer, Whitman, Tagore and Patterson as well as the thousands of less well known poets whose work has nevertheless given pleasure to many people and, perhaps, influenced them to go on to write good poems of their own.
  • Other than the rule about the time elapsing between a poet’s death and their work appearing on the Oldpoetry site, I wouldn’t like to be too prescriptive about how we work. With translations though I do feel that we should try to make things as clear as possible for the readers and so I have some recommendations.
  • On OLDPOETRY http://oldpoetry.com/ members and guests are welcome to make comments about the Old Poets and their poems.

Briefly the criteria are Relevance, Decency and Courtesy.
