Ode to the Betty Poets
A description of our style of writing
could be as varied as that of an alien sighting,
diverse
as verse
with timing
and rhyming;
often free verse,
unfettered by meter and rhyme,
word pictures capturing capsules of time;
generally not prose, called dull and boring
by Webster, certainly not us, causing snoring;
prose poems, as originated by Beaudelaire,
telling a tale in dramatic, poetic style and flair;
avante garde and mind twisting as in Gertrude Stein
and Ogden Nash, or sly as Dorothy Parker, so fine.
but most assuredly we know that the Betty Poets' style
is unique and personal, right from the heart, while all the while
drawing in the reader, holding the interest
in each poet's word fest.
Looking back over the pages, it's easy to see
that each writer is completely free
in creating an individual style, so personal,
so unique and recognizable,
we know who is writing
just at the sighting.
The Underground is such a welcoming place
that anyone can let the words fly at any pace
and in any manner that the words emerge
from the heart and the keyboard as the urge
to express oneself takes command,
and transforms into a demand
to visit each day and read each word,
for here THE POETS WORDS ARE HEARD!
Each writer knows the words will be read by another,
and responded to with compassion, praise, or advice to each other.
Unique is this underground,
and happy the poets to have found
this common ground.
