List: In Memory of Rachel Joy & Other Columbine Victims

Tears still come to the corners of my eyes when I think about this amazing young lady...

Rachel Joy Scott was the first student to be killed during the Columbine shootings on 20 April 1999. A terrible tragedy, that I believe that we all can learn something from. Rachel Joy was an extrordinary young lady, with a strong faith in Christ Jesus, and who always went out of her way to help people.

I first heard of Rachel Joy in April 2008, when a program called "Rachel's Challenge" came to my school. The main speaker was her uncle, who also had children that attended the school, and he told us the story, and told us about Rachel Joy ... he had video clips of students and family talking about her, and he presented her challenge, which is to try to change the world.

In the months before I heard that program, I was going through a relapse in depression, which I've suffered from for most of my life. But listening to this extrordinary young lady who hoped to change the world, who hoped to touch the world, gave me a zeal for life. It gave me a reason to step out of my funk -- to try to help people, to try to bring the cycle of hatred that flows through our schools to an end.
