Whereas, in youthful contemplation lost,
I was unable then to reck the cost. -
All those who, by his teachings, set great store
And loved him then, now love him even more. -
Pray, make the Greeks their promise hold
And keep my people free. -
Neither vestige nor sign of that heavenly pair -
Just the sadness they left me for what might have been. -
that men shall say in later years
"This was their finest hour!!" -
Across the fields of yesteryear
When life was light and free..... -
The treacherous Japanese attack
and Hitler’s perfidy -
Oh! For the sight of a strong tall ship;
sails filled with a steady wind; -
Oh God, You give so much but claim the most!
Bereft of Life, all that we own is dross. -
It’s my belief that ALL God’s living creatures have a Soul.
A life-force which, at death, returns to God -
Through simple rhyme and meter I have done my very best
To express some of the many things I’m trying hard to say -
Among my blessings I must mention two that rule my life:
My love for serious music and for all great english writing -
We do not know His purpose,
or understand His ways; -
“If music be the food of love, play on” the Great Bard said
and indeed his words are worthy of belief. -
Where do the fleeting recollections go?
Let not my age make me forgetful so. -
Let who is without sin first cast the stone
For truly, free of sin is Christ alone. -
I do not wish to shake or shatter others’ firm belief
But I find my own convictions, on this subject, come to grief.31 lines, 25 comments, on Mar 16 1:48 PM 2005. In Spiritual

Who were they that inspired wise men, to say
of them, “All we, like sheep have gone astray”. -
Man overestimates his tiny station
nor comprehends Almighty God’s Creation. -
They brought this hero’s last remains from France
where he had lain these passing sixty years. -
As I think of you, the old playgrounds at school I clearly see
and I wonder if you’re still alive and ever think of me? -
I was eight years old. It was my birthday.

What noble family extolled its name,
enshrined in this once proud sepulchre? -
"I, Khufu, did erect in My Name
this enduring monument" -
Lord, who created all that breathe and live,
reject us not! Our foolish ways forgive! -
…..and what will ‘007 bring
for those of us who really care? -
"Dear God, now I am seventy-five, / I thank You that I’m still alive. / I thank You for my loving wife / and child who share

Do justly, love with mercy, live with grace,
walk humbly then, before your own god’s face. -
There was a time, when I was rash and young,
the days were long and life was worth the living. -
Forgiveness, freely given, to the giver is a balm
which soothes the pain of grievance and restores the soul to calm.

You called, I left the earth with you to fly
toward the radiance that lit the sky -
Oh! I was born a Kiwi, in New Zealand. Understand?
My great-grandfather, Thomas, was an early pioneer. -
As You know, I didn’t go to church today
‘coz I had so many other things to do. -

The Nine Muses.
I swotted my museology for I’m a simple twit
who can't off-hand remember all their names. -
And there's a special room for YOU
Just like GOD's House above. -
I watched a man the other day who chased a destitute away.
He didn’t want that beggar’s feet to sully his side of the street. -
When a woman’s left without a man she has to live as best she can
with many diverse avenues to earn a wage - but which to choose?: -
Whatever, she's the loveliest creature
I shall ever meet. -
I'm sad for those whose minds deny the sustenance of soul,
who have no ‘ear’ for music nor an ‘eye’ for human art, -
When one contemplates the glory of the heavenly host at night,
one is overawed by so much sheer magnificence -
now, free of problems, I shall sleep…..
I’ve cleared my desk and debt. -
Why is it that quite nice girls choose
to spoil their bodies with tattoos? -
what our true fate will be or what, for us, God has in store
and all the world’s extremists cannot possibly know more….. -
Like Wordsworth, oft' my inner mind
when solitary, focuses -
I have a tricky problem which I don’t know how to crack.
My Muse is on vacation and refuses to come back. -

I’ve come to an arrangement with my understanding Muse
that she will now return to me and stay, -
Although Columbus added much new territory for Spain,
the Continent of North America he failed to gain. -
And, if he’d been a man with just a bit more resolution,
I'm certain that, today, you wouldn’t have your Constitution!
-
Are you aware, from history, how many malcontents
assassinated, while in office, US Presidents?
-
In roll-of-honour, cenotaph or military shrine,
we venerate the memory of those who fought our wars; -
All those far-off places haunt me and I can’t elude their call.
Oh, I wish that it were possible once more -
We strolled along the warm, white sand
beside the lapping sea.
