  • Dark Goddess
    This is a favorite poem of mine from the Greek Mythology and Tragedy Contest that I sponsored. It has tremendous depth of imagination, interpretation and emotion...

    The following was my original comment on it;
  • Direct link to poem, "Dark Goddess"
    This is a direct link to the poem "Dark Goddess"

    My comment:

    Wow, this is intense...talk about facing the Dark Abyss! I felt every word and identified with it for every moment of terror and fear of the unknown. You expressed the dichotomy of opposites so well in your poem...that the very thing that scares us is what will save us...for it is through going through the night and facing our worst nightmares that we are freed from them, and reach the other side of them. Beautiful!

    These were my favorite parts;

    "I am the Darkness behind and beneath the shadows.
    I am the absence of air that awaits at the bottom of every breath.
    I am the Ending before Life begins again,
    the Decay that fertilizes the Living."

    "Come to me at the Dark Moon and see that which can not be seen,
    face the terror that is yours alone.
    Swim to me through the blackest oceans
    to the center of your greatest fears--
    the Dark God and I will keep you safe."

    "Crossroads Between the Worlds."

    This gave me goose bumps!

  • Priapus, God of the Garden
    This poem received an Honorable Mention in my contest
    on Greek Mythology and Tragedies...

    My Comment;

    Quite an intriguing god, Priapus...and what a unique weapon he wields! I felt most sorry for the Donkey in this entire tale, and I loved your Sonnet admonishing this brazen god for his arrogance and cruelty...Maybe it was this story that lowered his status among the Gods of Olympus!

    "As day is nestled in the arms of night
    with subtle moans afloat enchanted air,
    a donkey's soul arises with a blight
    to smite the crops with nary hymn nor prayer.

    I hear the sinews in a body crack;
    with toil, a dismal lord is bowed quite low.
    The only harvest is drab rows of black
    where now a god wields only spade and hoe."

    Thank you for this most lovely entry into the contest. It is quite beautiful in its classical form and the provacative myth that it unfolds within the well-structured stanzas and carefully chosen words. I love it that your sonnet defends and revenges the noble beast's sacrifice for warning the nymph, Lotis, of Priapus descending upon her with his evil intention to rape her. Well done...you should enter this sonnet in an Animal Rights Contest, as well!! I'm saying this because I love animals. Overall, this was a most enjoyable work as well as exquisitely written, and I read it many times...
  • Velaunt
    This lovely poem is about a forgotten Goddess who deserves to be honored... see why.
  • Ballad of Erocles
    A sad but delightful tale that will keep you interested from beginning to end. This is a very well-written poem telling a fascinating story about a man whom the Gods' toyed with for sport, making all women love him, but he only loved a Wood Nymph who, of course, did not return his love.
