    Sonnets

There is a lot to think about here...I am extremely partial to John Donne myself. I like the other examples also though. I think the different examples help to put it in perspective. Thanks.

    hm.

    see, the way we learned sonnets was that the rhyme scheme was like this;;

    a
    b
    a
    b

    a
    b
    a
    b

    c
    d
    e

    c
    d
    e...

what kind of sonnet is that?

    Spenserian-abab bcbc cdcd ee

cde,cde sestet is a Petrarchan sestet (and is used with Italian/Petrarchan sonnets)

However, the abab abab octave isn't an Italian sonnet rhyme scheme (it is abba abba).

Of the most popular types of sonnets, the abab abab scheme above doesn't fit any.

An English/Shakespearian Sonnet has a scheme of abab cdcd efef gg.
The Spenserian Sonnet has a scheme of abab bcbc cdcd ee
The Italian sonnets begin abba abba and can end as cde,cde or cdc,dcd

I won't say that there isn't a sonnet form out there that does uses an abab abab octave because there are so many forms of sonnets floating about. Chances are, there is a sonnet variation that does use this scheme.

  • A Sonnet

    Spread Your Wings.........

If love just came in packets, closed and sealed
Bought with the weekly shopping at some store
What profit would the Supermarket yield
If when love fades, we'd simply buy some more?
For though I know full well you love me still
That fierce flame recedes to just a glow
I'd ne'er hold you in bonds against your will
Alas, the time has come to let you go
Yet even now, we swear that friends we'll be
Till Fate would have us breathe our final breath
Two hearts once intertwined are now set free
Yet love will still reside there until death.
So spread your wings, my sweet, and fly away
For we've loved more than words could ever say.

  • Another Sonnet

    Bliss......

The bouquet of your fragrance fills the air
    A clarinet concerto softly plays
In sweet repose with beauty, oh so rare
A vision I'll remember all my days
There on your face - an amatory smile
Primordial urges that you can't hide
I pause, to drink the scene in for awhile
Aware that soon, our two worlds will collide
With practised ease, came heightening of desire
Busy hands and fingers fan the flame
Comes consummation sweet and full of fire
And climax that no force can ever tame
Then sated, we exchange a gentle kiss
Could heaven ever host a bliss like this?
