The theme of a haiku refers to nature (seasonal word=kigo), although 'nature' can be interpreted in a global sense, e.g. : haiku may also deal with love and personal relationships and have human elements when using images from nature to describe it otherwise it is interpreted in the "style" of a senyru. To read a haiku means to experience impressions, the atmosphere or the feelings which occurred. (example by author)
