Banging my head on the coffee table of life

Let me just get one thing out of the way before I get serious.... K? Just one little itty-bitty second.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

There... and now, we'll begin.

When does a person's 'demanding their rights' move into them just bitching and being a bully?  Is there no line, and anything someone says, or yells, or demands with thinly veiled threats is something that should be caved in for? What if their demands or views are in direct contrast to my own, (or someone else's)... should their views take top priroity because 'they're right'(according to them).

To me, if you join something, or take on a responsibility, knowing in advance what the deal is, you have no basis for constantly whining. (sorry, but when someone is forever on that soap box, demanding that it's their way, or they leave, then I just want to shove them off, show them the door, and hope it hits their ass on the way out). This is not compared to the occassional things that pop up that one might think "oh, that's not right", and then try to enact some change. That's not whining, or bitching or bullying...that's taking a stand.

But, in taking a stand on everything, you really stand for nothing. Pick the battles, and people will be more receptive. Demanding does nothing but make the other side dig in and not want to budge. And pulling the "don't tell me how to (do whatever)... change it!!" is nothing more than the person reversing the issue. You may not want this person telling you how to do something, but you're demanding that they let you tell them how to do it.

No one ever sees that other side, though. People are so stuck in their little reality that they can't or won't realize that only a fraction of the people who are listening, actually give a damn. And next time, half the ones backing you will be shoving that knife in your back instead of helping you wave it.

It's not arrogant to think this way, or pulling a moral stance... hell, there are things I will dig my feet in for, and fight to my last breath, then probably come back to haunt over... but, I don't assume that everyone has to follow me, or even agree with me. Just don't insult me while disagreeing... I've been insulted and put down by the best, baby, and it ain't you. I've also been insulted and put down by the worst, but hey... whatever.

Life is far too short to argue endlessly over issues that don't really mean a thing in the long run. Sure, they're important in the now...but just how important are they? If you're going to spend all day stewing over something I, or someone else said, then it might be taking up a little too much of your day. And frankly, if it's the worse thing that's happened to you today, then smile and move on.

Keep your beliefs, but understand that not all share them, and not all should share them. Variety is the spice of life, and should be grabbed by the ears and French Kissed. (sorry... couldn't help it)

Nice rant Barb. I must say, I agree with you on this. I get on a high-horse sometims, but I hope people will knock me off of it and keep me in the real world sometimes. We should look at the issues and think about what people say instead of just saying "i'm right, you're wrong". Thanks for writing this out.

You have it so right, Barb. Do people actually have any rights? I'm not sure - when it comes down to the 'nitty gritty' for example, on this site - where would we be if Kevin forgot to pay the electric bill on time? Or pulled the wrong plug to plug in the kettle?

Seriously, we don't have rights anywhere. We only have privileges, granted by the Powers that Be at the time.

It is also the dying days of the Old Year, the feelings of frustration become more intense, as we realise we didn't achieve all we wished to.

Tolerant, wise people are an endangered species. They're not extinct, though, Barb. If they were, you wouldn't be here having a rant

    Have a

    Lis.
