It was all good for about 45 minutes of skating. I mean the ice was great and we barely ever have a pond to skate on and everything and I barely ever get to use my skates to begin with. Unfortunatly I had the great idea of bringing my iPod out with me and blasting it full volume as I practiced some stuff a friend had taught me.
I guess it was just my luck to not hear the ice cracking underneath my skates. Notice this was the pond that my dad and I had gone out onto days before and the ice had started cracking and we had to run back to the shore as fast as we could. We went on it two days later and it started cracking. My dad went on it today and it didn't so I was stupid enough to decide to go skating. Gah.
So I was skating around and the ice was cracking and I was totally in my own fantasy world. I must've skated over the wrong spot because there was a crack that I could hear through the music and I stopped and paused it.
This is where the blame falls entirly on me.
I kept skating. Yes, you read correctly I just kept on going. The part I was skating in didn't have snos on it so I stayed over there a little bit and there was no more cracking. Figuring the other cracking must have been something else I started doing rounds again (going all the way around the pond).
Yeah this is where I fall.
I get back to the spot where I'd heard the really loud crack and don't notice that there's water seeping up through a crack. One of my skates slide and I turn trying to keep my balance. My turn however was not graceful and I stepped down hard...on you guessed it the crack.
Another crack splits through and this time the skate I was trying to balance myself back out with slipped and broke through the ice. Now I'm here to tell you that that water is freaking cold! And when you've got an iceskate on and your trying to pull a foot out that is numb in a matter of seconds control is an issue. The other skate was still sliding the other way and I fell backwards the ice breaking again sending all of me in this time. Luckily the pond isn't that deep but it was cold out to begin with and the water was still cold and I was soaked (how my iPod survived I don't know...but then again it was under two layers of think clothes). After managing to get out of the pond and up to the house...easily in the top ten worst five minutes of my life. The house is up a slope and there was still some snow and ice and I fell several times trying to get up.
And so here I am. Bored. Drugged up. About to fall asleep again. Bruised. Sore. And still slightly cold.
