Upcoming novels by yours truly!

Firstly I'd like to say thanks to all those that are reading my my first ever-near completion novel that is; The Soldier Of Solace.

It is a a bit of a war story I know, but there are no heroe's so i hope it breaks the mould a little.

Secondly we have a story I've been penning characters and plot details for about two weeks and I feel it's ready to take to the next stage of development; namely writing a draft and posting it, seeing if it needs revising and doing so if it does. I'm constantly changing my plot or what happens to my main characters in any story, but this one I feel touches certain feelings within me when I think about it.

It's called 'Good Day, Mr Chuckleberry.' It's about a world where fascism and extremism won the second world war and as a result in modern society, there is discrimination and murder against people with disabilities, a prejudice like never before. A murder is seen taking place and soon it's placed; by the murderer of all people on a black, blind man who is soon accused and nearly lynched by an angry mob of people, who believe the SS Officer (the murderer). As his house is set on fire, a young boy who witnessed the murder but was too scared to speak up rescues the blind man and together they go on an adventure to seek that 'special land' where everyone is equal and free... but first they have to escape the manhunt that's on the lookout for them.

Thirdly, I have a story about a group of vigilantes set during a time of dictatorship in England, in the not-too-far future. I wrote this up last year, long before I knew anything of the watchmen or the comic book, so i won't apologise for something that might seem like a rip-off because secondly it isn't and thirdly, its' nothing like the watchmen. I can't wait to post this story either.

Lastly, this other project I have in the pipeline is about a young Irish kid who lives in Dublin during the troubles of N.Ireland and Ireland. His dad is killed when on tour of duty in the British Army and he soon finds that his loyalist family are picked on and harassed by certain republicans in his neighborhood. The bullying starts getting out of hand and when he befriends a young catholic kid, it soon becomes war. This story I have called 'The Belfast Boy' may change a little as it gets nearer to the time.

That's all folks, comment if you want!

Mike

    Three good storylines!

I like them all; the first seems to be an 'alternative history' type of novel which I am ALWAYS interested in.

Not wanting to get too political, but the second one seems to be about England IN THE PRESENT

The third is also of interest to me for I have a number of Irish friends from both sides of the border and belonging to both main religions.

I agree with Andy that it may be better to focus on one at a time; I have bits of paper cluttering my desk with ideas galore; the result of which I am getting very little down on paper (screen).

I do as you do when I'm writing about 'Tessa'. I keep changing the vernacular from time to time (luckily very few have noticed) but all the chapters are 'off the cuff' and ARE, in reality, purely drafts. Quite a lot may change when I finally get round to the final draft.

Good luck my friend, you're a fine writer and I hope to see you in print someday.

  • I like the storyline, the one set in Ireland. I can identify with that as coming from South Africa, we have also experienced lots of cultural violence throughout the years - one group dominating the other etc. We had a war that raged for 20-odd years when I was growing up. Most male SOuth Africans served in that awful war in ANgola .... one day soon, I'll write about that as it is also close to my heart. One of my brothers' served in ANgola for two years, he was 18 at the time, fresh from school and he was placed in that ugly, harsh environment ....

  • They all seem like good storylines,

but it may get a little difficult if you are trying to do them all at the same time.

    Much success
