A Significant Day

On Tuesday my class invited a Holocaust survivor to speak with us. While he recounted the numerous miracles that happened to him he concluded with something that I will never forget. His exact words were "You are the last generation to hear first hand accounts of Holocaust survivors". I was absolutely shocked. It hadn't really dawned on me that the Holocaust could actually be forgotten but it really could be. If my generation does not continue to tell people about the Holocaust and keep the memories of those killed alive, the Holocaust is in grave danger of being forgotten. I consider myself to be incredibly lucky to have heard a first hand account of Eddie Weinstein's story (you can google him if you want). Hearing him recount the trials and tribulations he went through does not compare to reading the events in a textbook. It simply doesn't. I will vow to tell my children and grandchildren about the Holocaust and make sure that it is not forgotten as long as I am alive.
