Hey anyone out there please listen

I know I haven't posted a poem in god knows how many months, but I have been writing them I promise. it's my junior year in high school, and I'm not really learning much about poetry in my english class, which isn't the point. Anyway I think that somehow I'd like to have a career that is centered around poetry and other literature but mostly I want to learn about poetry. I want to know the reasons behind E.E. Cummings' and Ezra Pound's writings, I want to learn about classic poetry and sonnets from a source other than the internet. I would want to write poetry for a living if I could, but the point is I have a whole lot to learn. I know Columbia College of Chicago has a program that allows you to major in poetry and creative writing. I know that I don't have enough money to attend without help. If anyone knows of any other colleges that offer a program like that that start from the ground up and help you refine your skills, please, feel free to send me an email or a message on here. Or if you happen to know of any scholarships that involve poetry etc etc.1

Hello glow-worm! It's nice to find you.
My son is a musician living in Nashville...actually Franklin right now.
My daughter is finishing her degree in Education at MTSU
We're from Oklahoma though! I'm now in Oregon...but to address your question, I am currently finishing my Master's degree in Creative Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma. At this point, I'm working with my Master's committee regarding my book of poems via Internet, phone, and trips to the university.
So, yes there are many universities out there that offer a Creative Writing or Studies program. I know, like you said, some of them are too expensive. There are many grants and of course student loans that can fund your college tuition and other expenses.

Let me know how it's going. I happened to be browsing through poets I haven't read yet and found your poems. Very fine work!
    All Best!

The first step is work hard at school.

Study long and hard because your education is going to be the foundation of everything you do. You'll be competing against lots of other high school students. No one is going to offer you a scholarship unless you can show them you're really serious.

Next, get some books of poetry and books about poetry, and do a lot of reading. Or read online, but be certain you're reading established, recognized poets. With very few exceptions, this place doesn't count. Neither do I. You need to be reading serious professionals, not amateurs and wannabes.

Finally, get as much exposure to modern arts as possible. Sculpture, painting, everything you can find. Online is a good way to do it since you're stuck in the middle of Cumberland-freaking-County, TN. Most importantly, don't quit until you achieve what you want.

Hope that helps. I wish you lots of luck.
