Heading to Russia

OMG! It's finally happening. After 3 1/2 years of this adoption ordeal we're heading to Russia (Siberia) on Thanksgiving Day to meet our new son Sergei. He's 5 1/2 years old. He'll be 6 in March. Doesn't speak a lick of English1

I'm so anxiety-ridden. The trip is scaring me to death! And it's costing us a fortune. I don't know how we're doing it - Robbing Peter to pay Paul. Our son Sam (almost 8 yrs old) is coming with, as is a family friend.3

I'm scared, anxious, excited, happy, worried and sick to my stomach. Thank God for Xanax!5

So, the average temperature in November is -5 F. And when we go back to get him in January, the average temperature will be -20 F.7

We'll spend a couple of days in Moscow site seeing, then off to Ulan-ude to meet him on the 30th. We see him every day in the orphanage through December 4th and fly back to Chicago on December 5th.9

OMG........is this really happening?11

I imagine at times it seems like a dream,
but then, there must be so much planning
to hold your attention that the reality
is striking. Wishing you all the best
    in this bold adventure!!!

Sounds like it's going to be cold there...Perhaps some scarves??!!

Thank you for your well wishes!! Xanax is better than valium

I'm going against my moral and ethical principles and borrowing a friend's mink coat to wear while I'm over there. Everyone wears furs. It's the norm. You practically have to in order to survive. I feel soooooooooo guilty.

Heyyyy, surely that's better than dying of Hypothermia, eh??
I know what you're saying though... I was Pescatarian, but with the recession, I lost my job, and meat over here is much cheaper to eat, so I too, am going against my morals, purely for survival.
It smells. But everything has a price, right?

        Worry not. Just Enjoy yourself!!
