Tears

A partially paralyzed young man addressed the congregation at church yesterday. A.J. is in his late thirties and has a wife and two adopted sons. He teaches Spanish at a local high school. He was injured in an auto accident years ago while on the way to a school where he was learning to be a paramedic. Ironic.1

A teen boy held the microphone for A.J. as he spoke to us. At the end of his sermon he said, "Someone asked me this week what I miss doing most. I never think about that because it is pointless, but to answer the question I thought for a moment and realized that the thing I miss doing most is getting down on my knees when I thank God for my blessings."2

The teen boy who was holding the microphone was crying. I knew we had witnessed one of life's best and most inspiring moments.

It certainly is something to behold when one rises to the challenges that life seems to have no qualms about dishing out.

What a tragic story, but one that makes us realize that we still have blessings no matter how bad things are.

What you say is profoundly true and I wrote this story so I'd never forget what A.J. said.
