I was in 6th grade with my brand new tattoo and Girbaud jeans (anyone remember those?), Brut cologne (nasty stuff) and Airwalk Ones... walking with a strut like a rooster on crack. It was a great year for me. Some of the learning inflicted on me during those great times was from the D.A.R.E program. If anyone doesn't know, that means "Drug Abuse Resistance Education". It began as a result of Ronald Reagan and George Bush's "War On Drugs". What a success that little project turned out to be, yeah?
Anyway, the D.A.R.E classes were run by a police officer who was trained in it's nationally mandated curriculum. Our officer was "Officer Mahaffey". He would flirt with the girls and make jokes about junkies while making us watch propaganda films disguised as horror films disguised as shitty documentaries about drugs. At the end of the course we held a play in which some of the kids dressed up like hippies and acted out highs from various drugs. There was plenty of laughter and clapping. After all this nationally funded indoctrination coupled with the sagelike words of my then favorite bands, I felt knowledgeable about drugs... and curious as hell. I was not alone. I'm pretty sure that most of my generation in America felt the same. We were listening to bands like Jane's Addiction and NIN, Butthole Surfers, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth... all of whose music is thoroughly steeped in drugs. So all I'm saying is, come on... did the kids in the us really need this program? Or is it just another number in a long chain of fuck-ups that have lead to the current "economic downturn" that we now face?
Regardless, I ended up smoking pot for the first time less than 3 months later. Within a year i had progressed to cocaine, meth and LSD. Officer Mahaffey was also charged and convicted with possession of marijuana during that time.
This and other strangely twisted circumstances have led me to believe that America has reached a state of mass surrealism in which shameful and gut-twisting occurrences have become a source for laughter. It's self preservation. Would it be better if we screamed? lmao...
Anyway, is it like this in anyone else's country?
So... yeah. That's what I thought about for a while today. 1

In the opening for yesterday's Simpson's episode, at the part where Homer throws out the glowing uranium stuck in his shirt, the pellet is caught by Otto (the bus driver), who shrugs, makes a non-commital grumt, and eats it. continuing to chill sprawled out on the park bench. That was funny... way funnier than my run

Have you noticed the default backgrounds on journals? Well who decided that? Does anyone really feel like a beige field surrounded by brown sailboats? I know I don't... and yet I still have to choose the black background to represent the way I feel EVERY TIME I PUBLISH ONE... and I hate it. It's more of a peeve than

So... I'm sweating like a whore in church... like a fat man in a Miata... like a witches titty in a brass bra... like Burt Reynolds upper lip at a moustache convention... but fall starts tomorrow so I refuse to turn on the A.C. I'm actually not sweating that badly, I just got carried away with comparisons. You like

So has anyone noticed that A.P has been a relative dead-zone for the past 2 months or so? Rarely have I seen more than 10 of my favorites online at once. I've been on vacation and dealing with some things, so granted I've been absent too, but anyone care to chime in on this? Well... I guess it is labor day... but

My feelings are too intense to write, and it's driving me nuts. Anyone ever have that problem? There are just too many things to write about and my head is filled to bursting. I just want some of this stuff out in words but every time I try it comes out in a jumble.

So I'm at Java City across the street from some college drinking coffee listening to bad indie music over the speakers. My intarnets got shut off by the man yesterday while I was gone to deal with legalities. Forgot to pay it.I can't find my wallet! Can't pay my bill! 1
