Ticked off

I am thoroughly disgusted with the police in my city... I have dealt with them off and on for most of my adult life. I naively thought their job was to 'serve and protect.' Apparently this is a wrong thought, proven again yesterday.
I had taken my girls to see my parents (I haven't been able to visit since Father's day).As I was leaving... this nutcase that lives in their building was protesting outside. Fine and good, honestly I believe in the whole free speech thing so go ahead! Problem is he's insulted my mother in the past and continues to be degrading to her and other people who live in the building.
My mom came out to take pictures of what he was protesting (he's not allowed to do so, and the board she's on told her and other members to gather evidence when they could because he makes sure to do this on the weekends when the office isn't open and they can't do anything about it.
So I was heading across the street with my girls... then I went back cuz I saw the dude approaching my mom. (bad vibes I suppose). Before I was able to get across the street this *insert curse word here* pushed my mom. I screamed at him to back the hell off (from across the street) to which I think he pooped his pants at being caught.
Other people started coming outside... I fully admit that I screamed... and I screamed loud! I may not always get along with my parents ... but NO ONE lays their hands on my mom. I told him that he went too far I was calling the cops.
The cops showed up (as did another neighbor who claimed to work with the police and gave his story (which I have no idea what was said) The cops talked to my mom afterwards and said that since it was a he said/she said situation that he wasn't being arrested. 1

I thought this was the 21st century, where violence wasn't tolerated and violence against women was tolerated even less. This taught my children that the cops won't do anything. I'm completely disgusted.

I am saddened by the lack of action taken by the police. At the very least they should have made the man leave. I am also saddened that your girls had to see that the police did nothing to protect their grandma. It's not a good message for them. Unfortunately I have been made more aware of the lack of compassion and prejudices shown by the police force in my own city. My eyes are being opened and it makes me sad that I cannot tell my children that police are to be respected and trusted just because they are police. That is no longer the case and I try to teach my children to be respectful to everyone but to not necessarily trust "everyone".

I'm glad you were there for your mom. I hope she's okay and that the crazy man will be forced to leave either the building or premises when he's ranting.

I know you stand up for your beliefs and morals and I'm proud to call you friend.

I hope you have a better week.
