Preparing for 5k

Missing image

I've been preparing with a friend of mine for a 5k walk and my darling baby Ms. S is joining us in our training.  We are hoping to work up to a full marathon.1

There is a perfect spot for walking and jogging in our national forestry state park.   It's not well traveled and the paved trail is supposed to be 3/4 of a mile, but according to our pedometer it isn't.   Well we follow our pedometers and about 4 and 1/8 of a lap is 2 miles.2

Today, we decided to go for our walk and not quite walk the total two miles (5k is 3 miles) because of Ms. S's knees and she's been stiff a bit after two miles, she's coming along great though.4

On our last lap which was 3 today me and Sausy is ahead of our friend just slightly and Ms. S. was slightly ahead of me but I was right on her tail.    Well long story short me and her had to do a little foot work to keep from stepping right in the middle of a tiny baby diamond back.    All three of us was a bit startled and the baby snake was so young it didn't have it's rattle yet.   I leap ahead with Ms. S. and hollar at my friend to stop.   Finally she saw it, but she's deathly afraud if snakes and the baby was directly in middle of the path.6

After a fashion it decided to continue onto the other side and just as my friend starts carefully stepping around it watching it's every move, a big black snake that my friend said looked like a king snake came barreling out of the leaves onto the trail after the little snake.   My friend (I'll refer to her as Sally from here on out) didn't see this huge thing at first until I hollored for her to stop and not move.  Then she saw it.    7

Well long story short, apparently it had been after the baby snake because it finally went after, and attacked the baby snake and was coiled around it when we finally were able to leave the presence of this spectacle.  8

Now this park is by far our all time favorite, I was even contemplating doing some meditations in this park next to one of the trickling streams today on our walk befor the occurance.   Well of course I was grateful we ran into snakes and not a bear and we have decided to continue going to this park for our walks after it dries up a bit, but I most likely won't be doing any meditating there.     11

Would you let nature scare you away from your favorite park?  Or would you go make peace with nature and enjoy all it's offerings?    I personally love communing with nature.13
