Gateshead council has decided that it is going to see to the needs of Hookergate comprehensive (west Gateshead) and give them a new school in one of the local areas. All be it a little stupid for them to spend money on a new school during this time of financial struggle, fair enough.
They have given us the choice of 3 options.1
1 Hookergate students go to Ryton comp for an undisclosed amount of time then move on to the new building.
2 Same as 1 but both Hookergate and Ryton move to the new building.
3 Hookergate students simply move to Ryton.2
1 and 2 disrupt hookergate twice and disrupts Ryton once. 1 also keeps both sets of teachers where as 2 looses many form both and 3 only looses some of Hookergate's teachers. 1 and 3 make no difference with environmental issues where as 2 adds an extra number of buses twice a day as Ryton students will no longer be able to walk to school (buses for hookergate students will always be a factor in all three cases.) 1 and 2 also neglect to take into consideration the 3 million pounds worth of work Ryton comp has undergone in the last few years. (I remember we attended an official opening ceremony for the music block the year I left) baring in mind Hookergate want newer facilities and Ryton offers that. 3
Personally I say go for option unspecified. Allow Hookergate to do what it wants and leave Ryton alone. (My opinion is obviously biased toward keeping hookergate separate from Ryton based on the more than awful experience i had at hookergate.)
However (and sadly)this obviously is not an option so logically the option that should go ahead is option 3.
However, around here the local councilors and the local residents of the Hookergate catchment area seem to think that the best possible decision they could make is to disrupt two schools and build a brand new school when there is already a perfectly new and up to date school that already exists, a school where most of the students can get there without causing more harm to the environment. While the Ryton catchment area are being realistic and sensible and favoring the latter of the options.4
It just bugs me that the people around me are so ignorant.
