I've been writing since, well, I learned how to write! I used to make up funny stories or write little poems to impress my friends or girls or to try and figure out a little bit of why I never felt "quite right."

As time went on, I lost myself even further with a thirty year relationship with substances and behaviors of every kind to take me outside of myself. Most of my writing during this time was apologies to whichever woman I was with, using poems full of darkness,pain and insanity, or drinking songs and ditties.

Finally, on the verge of suicide, having pushed everyone who cared about me away, I found a new way of life. I've been living this new way for the past twelve years, so most of my writing these days concerns change and hope, gratitude for life, and my own introspections as I discover new aspects of my faith and beliefs.

I love AP, because it's allowing me to stretch myself once more, and to unite with other poets and writers growing on this path, and perhaps to help myself or another human being that at any given moment might be caught up in confusion.  We are bound, first by pain, and then by hope.
I have to be vigilant though, for this can become just as much an obsession as anything else, and since I've been afforded the gift of this new life, I have to maintain balance today!  I am loving the changes that my life is going through, and I thank you for taking the time to read a little about what makes me get closer to being "right."

One of my (my firstborn!)AP daughters, ButterflyCuts, has given me the most magnificent Father's Day Present I could have ever imagined, besides her presence in my life that is! Read some of the most tender words any father could ever hope to hear! Thank you so much Daughter! I love you! Pop

Out in the world, searching for peace
Holding onto hope, he is accepting
Never doubting that his way, has a guide
Helping him with choices, right or wrong
John whispers quietly, and his guide hears his pleas
Of courage and serenity, to walk freely another day
He extends his hand, to those that require caresses
Not expectant of payment returns
Justifying, his travels
