"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit. "Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt." "Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?" "It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

(The countess Marguerite D'Anthes concerning Blessed Elizabeth of the Trinity): I asked her once what she could say to the good God during her long hours of prayer, and she answered me: "Oh Madame, we love each other."

boozers on April 30i really enjoy your stuff. it's got this fun whimsical stuff to it but pretty heavy at the end of the day.
it's awesome. i wonder if you've ever read "A Light in the Attic"? it's meant for kids, but the poetry is really fun and clever, and at times sad too.
i think you would like it. -
Orual on April 26Wow. I just realized how great that quote from The Velveteen Rabbit is. I'm still just sort of stunned. I need to go back and read all those books I read as a little kid--they really are much better than so many "adult" books.
