A woman peers out from behind the curtain. A dim light aims in her direction. Her eyes are big, brown, and beautiful. What is more beautiful than their depth is how they smile as her lips curve revealing an imperfect, but striking portrait.
"Oh. Hi there," she says to an audience of strange and wonderful faces. "I didn't realize there was anyone out here. I was just hanging out backstage, sitting in the quiet. I hope you haven't been here waiting too long."
The audience chuckles a bit, as if they are in on a great secret while she studies them to figure out what that secret is.
She brings herself into full view onto the stage and the spotlight shines more brightly causing those deep, happy eyes to wince, but her smile never wavers. She sits on a chair in the center of the stage and crosses her leg over the other and sits as if she is in a waiting room. She looks around a bit, searching for the act, but she comes up empty.
A gentleman sitting in the front row stands and gently says, "Um, pardon me miss. What are you doing?"
The woman replies, "I really have no idea."
The man continues, "Well, this is the place where you tell all of us who you are."
The woman replies, "Oh. Mhm. I see. Well, okay. I don't know if I'm comfortable with that. But, my name is Amy. I'm from Reading, Pennsylvania. I am married to a hard-working wonderful man, I have two beautiful daughters, Annya and Julianne..."
The man interjects, "Um. Excuse me. You are telling us about your family. We are here to find out who you are."
The woman replies a bit perplexed, "Oh. Um, okay. Let me try again. My name is Amy. I am a teacher of Reiki and a Qigong healer. I enjoy writing about the spirit and how it moves me. In my spare time, I..."
The man interrupts and says, "Okay, you've said enough! Please stay."
The man laughs heartily and says, "It seems to me you have a lot of work to do. If you need any help, you can find me here: http://allpoetry.com/PerVirtuous%20Allan I'm sure you'll have no problem navigating the stage. So, uh, start dancing."
The woman nods at the man still a bit confused. A pretty pair of strappy shoes appears before her as if from nowhere. She nods her head, slips on the shoes and cues the music...
