I watched a young farmer picking apples off a tree
I said, "Those apples there, are a lot like me."
He looked at me, then broke out in a smile
He said, "Lets sit and talk for a while."

I said,"I'm an like apple at the top,
no one wants to go there so they just stop.
They stop at the bottom of the tree
because they don't like climbing up to me."

The farmer said, "They get the ones on the bottom
But they don't stop, they get a lot of them.
They get the ones at the bottom because they're easy
They're not in love, it's just 'cuz they'e sleazy"

"But you are a good apple way at the top
You think something's wrong with you because they do stop
Theres nothing wrong with you your one of the best
With the other girls it turns into a mess."

Then he got back up on his ladder
I said to him, "Whats the matter?"
He just smiled and climbed to the top of the tree
And he picked an apple just for me

He got back down and said, "Never change.
Your just perfect, not wierd or strange
I like the top apples better, you see"
Then he lent over and kissed me

What happens to a dream deferred
does it dry up
like a rasin in the sun?

It wiggled around like marmalade jelly
It took me a while to catch what it said

Of his belly with my head
jesus saves is what it raved in a typical tattoo green
He stood on a box in the middle of the city
And claimed he had a dream
