Questions about the Poem Area (See general questions)

1 - 5 of 5
  1. How do I add my poem?

Choose 'Add poem' along the top of the screen!
  2. How do I get points for commenting?

You can get points for a comment over 100 characters long.

    There are two ways:
    • By how the poem author rates your comments: You get two points for each of four rating stars. You get 0 points for 1 star.
    • By commenting on Poems Rewarding Comments, by clicking the 'Poetry' tab above. Poems that are rewarding comments over a bonus 4 (currently) points credited when you make the comment. If the author rates your comment with 1 star, the bonus is removed, but not given back to them.
  3. How do I rate a comment? And Why?

People want points, which is one motivation for adding comments.
Rating a comment is what gives people points. If it was a 'nice write' comment, give it 1 or 2 stars. If the comment was critical, and went into detail about ways to improve your poem, give it 4 stars.

Each star shown corresponds to 2 points. As you hover your mouse over them, they will turn orange to show how many you have selected. Click the star when the correct number of stars are yellow.

Only one comment per poem per poster can be rated. Additional ratings on comments by the same person will replace earlier ratings.
  4. How is popularity decided?

By the number of times it's been applauded over the last 7 days. Each day, applause from 7 days ago are removed, and moved to "old applause" (still shown on the poem page).

A penalty for age of an item will likely be added in the future to prevent the same poem from staying in the popular list forever.
  5. My story doesn't show up in a particular category

The listings for a category are cached, which means they are only updated every 10 or so minutes. Hang tight and your poem should show up there eventually.

For performance reasons, poems from before the upgrade will not show in the category until it is edited and saved again.
