Find a dreamShow poetry

I go to a state school and study music in a department where you have to share instruments with two other people and pay $40 to go to a school-sponsored dance with sub-par food and shitty music. As a general rule, I hate people. I think the general public is stupid and ignorant. I love broadening my taste in music and literature and want to be more cultured than the standard white collar, Subaru-owning, holier-than-thou individual from the town I grew up in. I have a beautiful boyfriend who I love very much because he lets me be who I am, as crazy as I can be at times. He thinks my big ass and un-made-up face is wonderful and laughs when I act like a dumb ass. I try to be my own person but every so often I slip into the ever-present trends. I really want a Coach bag and love Mac makeup, as horrid as that sounds. I listen to a huge variety of music. When I say that I'm not being a tool like most people who say that but only listen to one or two genres. You can flip through my CD collection and find swing/big band next to rap, followed by Klezmer or classical music, which will be next to my classic rock collection. I'm not playin' when I say I have an eclectic music taste. I love to read and correct people's grammar, even if they don't care to be corrected. I play the clarinet and am over-coming my struggles with the bass clarinet. I'm learning to play flute now and supposedly know how to play piano, trumpet, and trombone, but please don't ask me to play any of them, you'll be sorely disappointed. I think cigarettes are repulsive but don't call me a hypocrite when you see me puffing on cheap cigars, they taste good, damn it! I'm not your typical drunk college student but I do indulge in my fair share of drinking. I'll slosh down a margarita or straight whiskey, depending on how I'm feeling. I'm not into the typical bar scene, hand me a down-to-earth, not-so-crowded bar with live music and an older crowd any day. I'm a take-no-shit girl and won't kiss anyone's ass for anything. I'm stubborn as all hell and refuse to admit that I'm ever wrong, which isn't necessarily a good thing, but it's me all the same. I find myself to be a loyal friend, trustworthy person, loving, caring, and funny. I love to laugh and to make other people laugh. I'm not a comedian by any means. One of my favorite movies features an 80s pop star who wears spandex throughout the entire movie and dances and sings with Jim Henson puppets. I drink more than my fair share of espresso each day but I'll also sip on some green tea for energy. I'm a hard-worker but I'm also god-awfully lazy sometimes. I'm really into Taoism, Buddhism, musicals, politics, writing whenever possible, and preparing gourmet espresso beverages. I think that's about all I can say about myself at the time.

I just had to drop by and must say I am pleasantly shocked to find a young person who, IMHO, has her head on straight! Lindsie, you are a breath of fresh air in this materialistic, throw away world! I shall have to return soon to delve into your writing, which I am looking forward to with great anticipation!

Hahaha... My daughter is 17 and definitely doesn't cover more than she really HAS to most of the time. Then, other days, she doesn't shower and wears sweats to school, so I think she's on the right track with being herself, whatever that may be for the day. Thank you for sharing the thoughts of Thearou. I haven't read his work, but I just might now!

why thank you! glad to be different from the vapid (and politically apathetic) minds that consume today's society!

I have always quoted Thearou because he said something witty in his writings about clothes being first to cover nakedness and second to keep warm, and yet people are fevorishly obcessed with the newest trends and buying new clothes every season even when it is completely unnecessary. That one should replace clothes when they are tattered and don't fill the requirement of baring the world from your nudity. Though I must say that most girls go for that look today, what with the pre-ripped jeans and skimpy tanks.

What can you do though? We live in a society obsessed with trends, the quick and easy things (like fast food and microwaves), sex, celebrities who are completely talentless and stand for nothing, and of people who dont vote or vote to keep assholes in office. (sorry I'm a little sore, politically from the primaries last night, I usually try not to talk politics!)

People are lazy, hard to please, and rude. Guess we have to deal, eh? so is life, unfortunately.

    thanks so much!
