Fairy tales from the pub
I got myself quite drunk last night
And things got a little bit hairy
Sitting there on top of the bar,
Was it a goblin - or a fairy.
I said to him or her or it
What are you doing here?
She said 'It's as plain as the nose on your face
Like you, i've come for the beer.'
She pinched a drink from someone's glass
And started to get quite frisky
She turned on the charm
Kissed the barmaids arm,
Who gave her a double whisky.
Then she came back to me and said with a grin
' Sometimes she gives me a double gin.
But i can't waste time on talking with you.'
So she turned around and away she flew.
I thought to myself, 'That's flippin' queer'
And decided to pack up drinking beer
Because i don't believe in fairies.

Then she was gone
She chose to walk alone, though others wondered why
Refused to look before her, kept eyes cast upwards towards the sky
She didn't have companions; no need for earthly things
Only wanted freedom from what she felt were puppet strings
She longed to be a bird, that she might fly away
She pitied every blade of grass, for planted they would stay
She longed to be a flame that brightly danced alone
Felt jealous of the steam that made the air its only home
Some say she wished too hard; some say she wished too long
But we awoke one autumn day to find that she was gone
The trees, they say, stood witness; the sky refused to tell
But someone who had seen it said the story played out well
She spread her arms out wide, breathed in the break of dawn
She just let go of all she held...and then she was gone

Damien Rice - volcano
Don't hold yourself like that
You'll hurt your knees
I kissed your mouth and back
But that's all I need
Don't build your world around volcanoes melt you down
What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea
Don't throw yourself like that
In front of me
I kissed your mouth your back
Is that all you need?
Don't drag my love around volcanoes melt me down
What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for what I give to you
Is just what i'm going through
This is nothing new
No no just another phase of finding what I really need
Is what makes me bleed
And like a new disease she's still too young to treat
Volcanoes melt me down
She's still too young
I kissed your mouth
You do not need me
* a heart is not a plaything
a heart is not a toy
but if you want it broken
just give it to a boy
boys they like to play with things
to see what makes them run
but when it comes to kissing
they do it just for fun
boys never give their hearts away
they play us girls for fools
they wait until we give our hearts out
then they break the rules*
*I ran up the door, Closed the stairs, Said my pajamas, And put on my prayers. Turned off the bed, and hopped in the light, all because you kissed me goodnight
