do you know your colour(s)?

You can’t be the pole and the equator at the same time.
You must choose your own line, as I hope to do,
and it will probably be colour.

~ Vincent van Gogh

Please welcome Gill (NurseChilly) and Tara (ardentMarch) as my new co-judges

I’ve dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after,
and changed my ideas;  they’ve gone through and through me,
like wine through water, and altered
the colour of my mind
.

Colour helps to express light,
not the physical phenomenon,
but the only light that really exists,
that in the artist’s brain.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 23, 2008
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 750, Bronze: 450, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
WOW!!! It took us quite a while to judge this contest and to arrive at the final placings. What stunning poetry you placed in our eyes, poets!!

Unfortunately Namita could not complete the contest due to personal circumstances, but I was fortunate enough to have the very talented Gill (NurseChilly) and Tara (ardentMarch) as new co-judges. The finalist were the ones that scored the highest points as awarded by the 3 judges. There were at least another 6 poems that were trophy-worthy but we decided to stay with six trophies.

Thank you to Gill and Tara for their valuable input - you are stars, girls!! Congratulations and big thank you to each entrant for your wonderful support and for making this contest so very hard to judge.

~ Gold to coq for "isabella"

~ Silver to Annalise for "Upon receiving my soul back from the cleaners"

~ Bronze to grm for "the man who spoke violet"

    HM's to:

~ Moqui Takoda for "Dusk Music"
    ~ Ashcock for "Blue Sublimation"
    ~ Faithbound for "February's Moon"

    You coloured us beautiful, poets!!

    Nicolette, Gill & Tara

I love the little reminder by henri matisse ... after all, a few meters from my house stands the amazing "matisse-chappel" ... he sketched sacred drawings on a white wall, and when the light shines through the yellow and blue windows, the robes of the saints become colorful ... just outstanding ...

You can pick your own colour, Cassie....Green makes me think of something Federico Lorca wrote:

“Green how I love you green.
      Green wind.
      Green boughs.
      The ship on the sea
And the horse on the mountain.”

Green makes me feel like swaying in the wind like a tree.

Let me ponder for a moment before I begin writing. ^^

lolol!!! I've been to Brazil before...loved it, but I never learned to speak Portugese . How about German or Afrikaans, lolol - or even Tamil.

Hmmm perhaps not...let's stick to English even though it's not yours, mine or Namita's first language!

not very exciting as my kids have told me..

Alright, my muse overworked and I've two works which could be equally suitable for this contest. Is it limited to just one poem?

    • Nicolette gold member
      March 3, 2008

Yes, just one poem per poet - so you have some decisions to make...!

Sigh, decisions, decisions. Alright, just one last query even though it might sound a tad stupid. What's meant by a 'solid background'? Just plain coloured background with any design as such?

Hi! I've got a poem I would love to submit, I think it fits the prompt perfectly. Is there anyway I can slide it in even though it's a prewrite?

Sorry...no prewrites but if you want to post an entry it would have to be as a new poem....
