One

Rules:

1. Pay no attention to the title. It means absolutely nothing.

2. One entry only

3. I will comment on your poem.

Some of my comments will be pointing out errors, grammar issues, and the like. Some may just be on what I thought of the entry you submited.

4. Poems only.

No prose. No novelettes or novels or articles etc.,

5. Poems only.

What I Won't Do:

1. Praise your work.

If your piece is bad, I won't tell you it's bad. I may tell you it needs work but this isn't negative feedback I'm giving you it's feedback to help you improve your poem. If I give such feedback, and I actually like your poem, or think it has potential to be better with the feedback I give it, I may come back to it, and it may place.

But, if it's the same as it was before with no improvement by my suggestions or by your own after reading my suggestions - it has no hope. I'd remove it.

2. Give you clappy guys.

Just because I read your work, and may or may not have liked it doesn't mean your work deserves clappy guys. I have as of yet given any clappy guys for poems since the clappy guys were incorporated into comments.

Hopefully, someday, I will see a poem worthy of clappy guys but until then: tough shit.

What You Need To Know About Me:

1. I am an asshole.

This is true. I admit it. However, I leave civil comments on poems at this website. Pointing out errors is not uncivil. Suggesting to you how you could better improve your work is not uncivil. If you go by the ideal of:

"If you have nothing nice to say, do not say anything at all."

Or any of the variations that apply to the above quote - I would suggest not entering into this contest.

You coming to me in IM's or on the Contest page, or to my own poems and leaving messages that are negative because of something I say on your entry that you do not like is you being uncivil and you will find out how much of an asshole I really can be.

I do not take to threats, and I will not tolerate comments on my work that are solely there to "pay me back" in some manner for what you perceive I said that was so rude to you on your work.

If you have such a problem with me: place me on your ignore list, and you'll never have to read my comments on your work again. You can go back to fairy-tale land, and have people praise your shitty work that you're not even willing to admit is shitty.

2. I'm an asshole.

That's all:

Have fun!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 6, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 75, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
My apologies to the two people I didn't comment on but since you both placed in the top two, I do not really think you care too much. If you do: I had absolutely nothing to say about your poems, and I didn't want to leave a generic comment.

I have 3 other Contests identical to this one open - except that they do not allow "automatic" prewrites but no where in the rules does it state you can't enter a prewrite, just can't do it on the contest - you'd have to manually do it.

    Thanks for participating.

Nam, being honest doesn't mean you're an asshole.

I had to double check on your page...and yes there are 6 of these contests!! You are going to have your hands full!!

Does to them. Yes, there are six. 3 allow prewrites, the other 3 do not.

ahhh...see I didn't even notice that some allowed prewrites and the others didn't. Glad you mentioned that, perhaps I can pull something together. I have one I've been working on but it's still in the editing process...

This is the only one of the 6 that allows only 100 entries. It's more of an experiment. If I actually get 100 entries in this one before a certain time passes, I may limit those as well.

By the time I'm done judging all the contests I should have the amount of points (or more) I used in making them.

if you look on my author page under "Active Contests" (all 6 in order) you'll notice that 3 of them have 20 or more entries, and 3 of them have less than 5 entries.

See how lazy people are? They won't take the 2 minutes it takes to add a poem (prewritten or not) into a contest that doesn't give the option to automatically place one from their author page.

If I had them open to automatic prewrites, I bet they'd have just as many entries as the other 3.

            (giggling)
People are lazy, it's a known fact.
Maybe they're thinking you only want newer poems in those contests.
I'm working on two different poems right now. One of them I actually entered in your 'two' contest 2 different times, but deleted it both times because I wasn't happy with it.
I'm afraid my writers block is sneaking back up on me...

Well, I've never had writer's block: I've just written everything already. But, sometimes what I do is I take a few of my poems, take some of the lines from it that I like, and then create another poem with them. Sort of like centoing your own work.

My poem: Arabella is a combination of 4 previous poems rewritten into one poem, with a different subject.

Most of all the poems I've entered into Melissa Gayle's contests are rewrites of other poems.

Rewrite huh??? Now that's food for thought. Perhaps that will spark a whole new, improved poem.
I'll check out Arabella later today...I'm on my way out the door right now (almost time to pick up my little guy from school).

You're such a wimp. Need a tissue for those tears?

You know, all but for the titles: they are the same exact contest. Just some allow prewrites where as others do not.

'Who said I was an "ass"?'

Surely you don't want the list. I know you said you are an asshole - where, exactly, does it say that I was quoting you when I said you aren't an ass? I was quoting thousands of other people...lol.

You mean millions? People have (sadly) heard of me from around the world. Not just here.

My father told me the other day [paraphrasing]:

David, you should really answer your cell once in awhile so people can have the dissatisfaction of hearing you answer your cell - which would remind them to never call you again!

A very wise man, indeed. It is a pity he didn't have the wisdom to keep it in his drawers, those many years ago. Now we all must pay.

Perhaps even death threats. I've only received 2 so far this year. (one from this website and another from the "real" world)

I think I'm softening up. Last year I got 4 to 5 death threats. This year: only 2.

They're not pointless. I'm trying to get 30,001 comments. Six contests with an average of 100+ entries per, should do it.

I read both pieces quite a few times, I just had nothing to say. I wouldn't say I was left speechless, I don't believe that's the case but when you read and comment as much as I do it's hard to comment without pointing out flaws and errors and the like, and then leave some semblance of anything else.

I mean, if I read more poems on this website that had less errors in them then perhaps I could but most of them are flawed in some way, or other.

      Quite difficult, really.
