http://allpoetry.com/home/guide/rules

2. POETRY ONLY. This means NO PROSE.

3. NO PREWRITES. This means NO PREWRITES.

4. One Entry Per Poet. This means 1-ntree-pur-poe-it.

There ya have it. Limited rules to maximize creativity.

Suggestions

1. READ THE RULES.

2. iF YoU stICKy or d.i.r.t.y {[y/uor]}P-R-E-T-T-Y, keep your readers eyes in mind. There is nothing wrong with strategically placed caps or symbols, but you will have better reception if it creates an effect rather than a blindness.

3. When choosing your fonts, background, etc, again, for the love of vision, keep your readers eyes in mind. It is difficult to view a poem objectively when one's eyes are bleeding.
4. Check out the competition and read your fellow contestants. Who knows, you might find a new favorite.

The contest will close October 14th.

Hey..this ends on my birthday. Cool. I've been trying to work on a poem that just hasn't been coming together right...here's a good reason to work on it. Good luck with the contest.

You might want to read Aristotle's definition of poetry in his book poetics

Just so you know, some people (real poets) may not quite get what you mean by poetry from prose. Did you mean verse from prose? Because some of the best freeverse poetry I've ever read by such greats as Ginsberg, Kerouac, and Bukowski are in fact prose.
