This Contest is number four for me. So I'm still working out all the kinks and troubles. If there is anything that I've forgotten or perhaps something overly done, please don't be afraid to tell me so. Upon reflection, I have altered this contest from what the others were like.
It is still ordered as so: 1. Introduction 2. Contest Options 3. Contest Requirements 4. Contest Rules 5. Ending Statements 6. Added Information (during contest)
In a brief explanation, Options are what you can write about, Requirements are things that I would appreciate that you do, but are not going to DQ you in any fashion, and Rules are concrete guidelines that either you follow or you leave. Simple? Sorry I have to be tough, but I'm really none too happy with contestants who just enter just because they can and it gains them a few comments or whatever. So, anyway, here we go!
I am hoping beyond all else, that a great poet of mine, The Chameleon would like to grace my contest with his words, whether in comments, his own work or what have you.
CONTEST OPTIONS:
They're here to make it easier to come up with something on the spot. There are no prewrites allowed in this contest, and I'm sorry if that's what you are looking for. I am looking for poems made specifically for this contest...and in hopes that you will enjoy it all the same.
1. Write a rhyming poem of something cheery or dark. I do not want something obscene. That is the only faux pas here.
2. Write a poem in whatever genre you find to be your best work. Whatever it is. I want the best of the best of the best of the best...but don't over do the entries here...I can only believe one poem is the best of the best and all.
3. Write something so descriptive and mind-gripping, I feel like I'm part of the write. This one can be either poem, column, essay, or whatever, but I would appreciate no death notes.
4. Write a story or short write that is not a poem. Something that will draw me into it and actually finish reading, please. I may not have ADD, but I sure act like it at times.
5. Anything I may have missed. Just tell me what I forgot to include in your Author's Comment so that I am better prepared for future contests.
CONTEST REQUIREMENTS:
I know you don't really have to do any of this, but if you do, it is greatly appreciated and I so enjoy hearing from those that enter my contests.
1. Comment. While you don't really have to here, I would so appreciate it if you would look at my works and place a short line of what you think of my work and what you think I am saying in the write. Leaving a "this is good" type of comment is not, in my way of thinking, a comment.
2. Entries. I would prefer no more than one or two writes, but I if you're up to it, I will accept more...it just doesn't seem like anyone would be interested in that.
3. Challenging. I love challenging my contestants. Whether it's write a poem of this line, or find this in on this page...whatever. The challenge that is optional here is quite simple. I have a list of my favorite poetry on my bio-page. I want you to read one of their works, comment on it and then write in your author comment box which one you commented on.
"The Lining of a Gold Miner's Wallet" The link is:
http://allpoetry.com/list/10603
4. Last request here. I know no one will most likely do so, but if you do any of these extra items here, I would appreciate it if you would mention it in your Author Comment so that I may know and you may earn extra points...possibly an honorable mention or something...depending on how much you do.
RULES
Yes, I know. Who likes rules? Well, I like them because they limit what I don't like and they make it far easier for me to judge all your most wonderful works.
1. Sticky Caps. I really don't want any extra capitalization, but I will accept it all the same.
2. Grammatics. I would appreciate a small sense of grammatics. Using the correct words, a breeze of good spelling and some periods and such in your work make it easier to read. If it's hard to read, I don't finish and you don't win. Simple as that.
3. Comment Box. While I am not requiring you to comment on anything, I am requesting that you use your Author's Comment Box by placing something in it.
4. Prewrites will not be allowed because I am searching for the more stoic sorts. Sorry.
5. Negative Non-Building Comments. I do not like mean and nonconstructive comments. If I see one from you, I DQ you. Mean is not acceptable. Being so when you are offended is fine, rudeness and negative words in commentary are forbidden here.
6. Enter as many times as you like. Just no prewrites.
7. Prove to me that there are writers out there that look at these things. Writers who actually do as the contest holder ordains. I have on this page somewhere a sentence. It has the word "gold" in it. Look for it and type whatever is in the quotation marks into your Author's Comment.
8. If you have any trouble or wish for a pre-judging critique (these are very very helpful, by the way) please IM or leave a comment to dragondancer so that you will receive this. (It is also possible that doing so will give you extra points, and possible sponsorship or two)
ENDING STATEMENT
I know that this is a rather long, and wordy contest, but I am hoping for some interesting writes. Writing your work in Word or Notepad and then pasting it in works just as well with me provided that you understand that this is for newly created works. I don't want you to give me a new copy of your old work. That isn't nice and, while I will not check, is not smiled upon here.
If you enter, you will receive:
--A comment on the work you enter (not just a simple "it was good" comment either)
--Most likely at least an honorable mention (up to 100 points)
--Possible future comments on other works you have all ready created or will create in the future
--An invisible virtual cookie
ENJOY Poets and may I gain lots and lots of entries!

This sounds good, everyone needs rules so no problem there, the only thing that gave me a twinge was you hoped another poet(named) would join, makes one think he or she would be favoured?
-
I was not aware this was a contest offer when I clicked on it but it does seem to be an interesting challenge so I will have to keep this in mind today and see what I can come up with. I did at least feel compeled to leave a comment since I had entered through the featured column. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful time with it. Maybe I can come up with something I think might be worthy.
-
I am inclined to agree with masterblaster... when you specifically name a poet as very sought out (to enter) then the other possible contestants may feel that there is a slim chance if this poet does enter. That was the first thought that hit me anyway. But that aside....I will certainly try my hand here as this sounds interesting and well planned out.
-
How can you enter the best of the best (option #2) if there are no pre-writes? lol. You can't very well assume the next thing you write will be the best of anything. Just thought I'd point that out.

No Favoritism Here
I am actually hoping for my favoured poet not to enter, but read and help me out with this contest. It is a hope, but should he enter, I am a very anti-favoritism critiquer. I have been known to bash my favs just as harshly as I do everyone else on this site. If he does enter, I have two other poets that are assisting me (though nameless because they wish to be so) who will not show favoritism even if I do. And trust me, they have far more sway on the answers than I do myself...it's their computer anyway... -
Thanx
I hope you do enter! I so would like to see more people entering my contests...especially since I've gone rather lax on the rules and such. Thanx for the comment! -
Thanx
I am not looking for the actual best...I am actually hoping for a work that people consider good. I don't want some lazy entry that was just put together just so as that they may enter. That particular option is merely for those that write excellent works without pause or thought. Something of a from the mind to the pen type of thing. Thanx for your comment, though.
-
thanks for the assurance, did not mean to offend.

I am hoping beyond all else, that a great poet of mine, The Chameleon would like to grace my contest with his words, whether in comments, his own work or what have you.
This knocks me out of the box for sure! We have had disagreements in the past and I don't think he'd be an unbiased person to view or critique my work. Good luck with the entries, hve fun judging and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
-
hey I will enter but I want prejudgment and i wanna know if it is worth reading or not . If it is bad tell me so i can do smething maybe . i wrote it two days ago and i will post it now .
-
Bummer, you just missed my
'The Christ Omelette' poem
By a few minutes
It would have fit in nice here. -
This seems a wonderful idea for a contest
Though I am dealing with a writer's block for the moment (I can't manage to squeeze something out of my head) I will definately try and wake up my lazy mind to come up with something for your conteste here
I'll try and gor for option number one I guess
Anyways, I won't promise a thing, I'll try...
Good luck judging this contest

Thanx
Might I suggest something to you then? I adore a good rhyming poem, but I haven't gotten a single cheery, bright poem yet. If you do that, you're almost sure to get at least an honorable mention. Oh, and I leave length comments with a rather unbiased critique (I've been told I could literally tear my own brothers' works to shreds if it wasn't good enough, I don't do that by the way)
Hope you sign up! I'm always looking for a good read

Virtual Cookie Goodness
This is a wonderful contest. You did a very good job with setting it up. I loved everything about it! I don't know if I'll enter. I will try. No gurentees. I'm glad you do constructive critiques. Whenever I try to do that, I get badmouthed and they tell me that I totally killed their work. To which I always respond: I'm sorry for offending you. It say to be diplomatic in your comments. Critiques are only suggestions, not have-to's.
Good luck. Wonderful job here! -
Thanx
Believe you me, I know what you mean. People don't always like what I have to say about their work, but then, I try to add a bit of honey to my critiques. (I'd say sugar, but that doesn't stick as well as honey in the end
) Here's a great idea for your critiquing: try leveling out every one or two things that are hurtful with one thing that is good about the work. Make it sound like you're actually saying something very nice and crush it at the same time.
That almost always works without hurting anyone's feelings. Thanx for your nice words (though critiqual reviews are very much welcomed on all of my works without the worry of anger on my part...can't say that about my readers). Please, do enter...I don't know when I shall actually close this work, but any and all works you enter shall be a wonderful addition to this and any future adventures of contests...(yeah, I'll do more contests...just give me a moment to rack in the points!
) Thanx for commenting!

Hi am having trouble getting on to page with poem, the lining of a gold miner's wallet, how else can I get to it.
-
Here, I've given you at least one cheery rhyming poem. Who knows? There may be more on the way.
-
Hi Dragondancer wow to get gold and silver that gave me a mega boost, thanks a million

Welcome
Wonderful works, regardless of who they are written by, deserve the utmost care in awardings. You wrote them, you deserve the points!
-
Oh, that bronze made my day. My first...cause my poetry isn't that good normally. **skips around merrily** Now I'm all happy and perky even though I had two exams today. I feel like commenting on poetry now too. Maybe later. Thanks a bunch. **skips off to my happy place**
