welcome to another DARK contest! my 25th on this site!
how appropriate that the 25th contest reflect the meaning of x-mas!
many of us do the same thing every year as itz called a tradition. have you ever thought about those who never get that same tradition as they might be down on their luck or have no place to live. think about it that way and it doesn't seem like much of a christmas.
most of my contests require many fulfillments to be met. to break away from tradition, i want you to do the same. write a poem how you would break away from the traditional christmas which is your norm and help someone else that rarely sees a traditional christmas.
if you have any questions concerning this contest, please make them as a comment to this contest and i will answer in a reply. this should be done in case others have the same question.
guess itz time for some rules.
1. no pre-writes (if i did this, it wouldn't be a personal invitation to a contest from theDARK1).
2. one entry per poet.
3. any style/any form (length is not a problem...do what you want to do and how you want to do it...as long as you comply with the other rules too).
4. you must meet the requirement as listed in the body of the contest.
5. closing date will be december 25-30(somewhere in this time frame), 2004 at midnight (eastern time zone). note: if you procrastinate you may end up watching as i will close this contest at my leisure of the dates specified to ensure i am the JUDGE of my contest!
6. i will comment on every entry (it could be during or after the contest closes for judging).
as itz always my custom to wish everyone luck here as i will not do it in the comments to your writes!
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 29, 2004
- Rewards: Gold: 325
- Final notes: i want to thank everyone for taking this challenge. it was not an easy one since it involved an emotional link to the holidays from a different perspective. there may have not been that many entries, but it was still tough to judge. hope there will be more contests that i host in the future that might generate your interest. i do hope that everyone will have a wonderful new year, DARK.

You have finally created a contest that is way too challenging for me to enter. Some may find this to be crazy or maybe even selfish but the challenging part for me would be to challenge myself to go someplace I have not ever been able to go before. As weird as it sounds just reading this contest made me cry. I do not cry. I wish you lots of luck with this.

You know...I Love this contest, and I think the world of you...but I have to ask you a question. Why have you taken Christ out of Christmas?
I know the x is supposed to kinda mean the same thing, but to me it just doesn't. Is saddens me in all actuallity. Please don't be offended, I was just wondering...Thanks for reading.

sam, people do many things for many reasons. no i'm not offended at all. i keep an open mind even sometimes when i don't need to (because itz who i am). no one has taken "christ" out of "christmas." christ is the reason why there is even a celebration in the first place. as you are aware in this fast paced world that we as humans take many short-cuts. the only reason why i used this short-cut (which is very limited as christmas is whole in most of the contest). as for the title, i could not see DARK coming before "christ" as no one comes before him. now you know why i had to use "x" as it is known for the short-cut and made me feel better not putting myself before "christ." i hope you can see it from that point of view and know that "christ" will always be in "christmas" no matter how one spells it (even if itz mispelled). you can't change the reason why we celebrate his birth because of how it may be spelled. if that was the case, many celebrations would be held in vain. again, i'm not offended and hope you won't be either from my explanation.
