DARK trophies contest

welcome to another DARK contest! my 24th in just a little over 12 months of being on this site!

now for a little deja vu! you will see a similar requirement in this contest as you did in the last one with the exception being somewhat more demanding in this one.

now let's get to this contest. many who have read the rules from my other contests realize that they're not for everyone, even though i encourage all to enter. most (not all) require a challenge to be met. this is a contest that will require you to meet a challenge if you choose to enter (sounds familliar doesn't it if you read the rules to my last contest).

to date, i have now awarded 69 (my favorite number for my alter ego, not for that reason you dirty minded people, hehehe...see my add-on to thepoetamuse's number add-line for an explanation) trophies (that's alot of hardware for many mantles). many months ago i thought up this contest in my mind and just now putting it down in a concrete form. i thought it would be nice to learn how people view winning trophies. i know there can be so many to everyone. like the last contest, this will require three parts in one; part essay and part poem format along with one detailed comment (not a one-liner or just a few words) to a competitor's entry (if you are the first one that enters, you will have ample time to meet this requirement for this contest will be open approximately 3-4 weeks). the poem and essay must be typed as one entry. you may insert several blank lines or something that suggest a breaking point between the two. it doesn't matter which one comes first, you decide.

requirements for the poem:

must be a poem about any of my previous 23 contests, so that excludes this one for the poem requirement. the poem must echo the theme of that particular contest chosen (you must include the title of the contest you wrote your poem about in the author's comments. not to see if you read the rules or not, but can easily serve that purpose if need be, hehehe). can be in any style and form you prefer.

requirements for the essay:

minimum of five (my creator's favorite number if you were flat out curious why itz the minimum for this contest) paragraphs in length (you can determine the length of each). the essay must address the following (your view or opinion has no bearing on winning as i tend to have an open mind when it comes to judging);

i want to know what does it mean to you to win a trophy. does it make a difference what place you finish! does it alter your creativity when specified requirements have to be met for a contest? good and/or bad, want your thoughts about winning contests (and how it might effect your life).

of course there are no DARK requirements that must be fulfilled in either segment (even though the poem must address a theme in one of my 23 previous contests).

requirement for comment(s):

just like i said, please make it a detailed comment as you word it in the style you prefer. i just don't want to see one-liners or just a few words to be your comment. this particular contest will require alot of work and your competitor should be rewarded with an equivalent comment (as you will be rewarded with the same to include a bonus...will explain shortly). if for some chance you are reading this contest and not entering, itz up to you what length the comments you will be leaving on the works to this contest.

now for the bonus that applies to everyone commenting on any of the works submitted to this contest; i posted this under short-story for a reason. the work of the contest is in essence telling a story/viewpoint of the subject being addressed (even though i have added more requirements). this is a win-win situation for everyone involved. for each lengthy comment you make, you will receive the regular points plus three bonus points for reading a story (viewpoint in this case). it will get those poets familiar with the short-story side of allpoetry that would have never ventured there on their own. it will give you a chance to enhance your commenting skills that you can take with you to future works from other poets. if you entered this contest, the requirement is to comment on one other entry (even though itz encouraged to do as many as possible. i know we all lead extremely busy lives and that it may not be possible to comment on more than one as i found this the case to be with me on some of the poets that have me on their favorites list).

please get those minds working to win trophies #70-72 (that will be awarded at the close of this contest).

if you have any questions concerning this contest, please make them as a comment to this contest and i will answer in a reply. this should be done in case others have the same question.

my apologies for not posting this contest immediately after the close of my last one, but wanted to make sure that i could project a closing date to ensure i will be the only one judging this contest and not someone in my place.

guess itz time for some rules.

1. no pre-writes (if i did this, it wouldn't be a personal invitation to a contest from theDARK1).

2. one entry per poet.

3. any style/any form (length is not a problem...do what you want to do and how you want to do it...as long as you comply with the other rules too).

4. you must meet the requirement as listed in the body of the contest.

5. closing date will be december 16-30(somewhere in this time frame), 2004 at midnight (eastern time zone). note: if you procrastinate you may end up watching as i will close this contest at my leisure of the dates specified to ensure i am the JUDGE of my contest!

6. i will comment on every entry (it could be during or after the contest closes for judging).

as itz always my custom to wish everyone luck here as i will not do it in the comments to your writes!

another note: there was a good question addressed concerning the poem part of this contest. please read it in meesa p's comment and my response for the answer!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 30, 2004
  • Rewards: Gold: 324
  • Final notes:
    i have to admit this was a tough contest to take on. i have several other ideals not yet posted for a contest which won't be as challenging as this one. i will post the next one soon which is about playing a game. got the ideal several weeks ago, but yet to write it down and post it. the gold was a toss up. i had to literally flip a coin to determine the winner for the gold and silver. i wish i could award a pair of gold trophies in this case.

    gold - samplette
    silver - meesa p
    bronze - imfallingfast

    This is going to be very interesting. I am going to have to put on my thinking cap and I may even burn a few brain cells. But, Hey, we don't really need them anyway do we? Are they really all that important The only question I have is for the poem part: when you pick the contest you want to write about does that mean you are following the rules and guidelines of that contest or just writing about what you think about the contest itself?

    Good Luck with your entries and it is nice to see you!

    meesa p, concerning your question the answer would be no. it only has to address the theme itself. i am glad that you posted a question for i see i have left some things out of the contest like: rulez, hehehe! got to have them! will go update as soon as possible.

    You always come up with the coolest ideas for contests. I am kicking myself for not seeing this earlier. I will try to put my mind to work and get something together before it closes, but I don’t know if the inspiration bug is going to be biting or not. We shall see.
