OK, I wanted a contest dedicated to September 11th.
Before I start-I must say, I am not American, I am English-and I lost nobody I knew through the awful events. HOWEVER-I was touched deeply by it-I went into mourning, and I feel sad around this time every year. Maybe you're reading this thinking I have no right to. But I do. Firstly, at the thought of so many innocent lives lost. Despite the fact I didn't know them-it doesn't make it any less tragic that there were so many deaths. Secondly (although I am NOT religious) at the fact that this world contains people evil enough to do it. Yes, I'm sure in there mind they had their reasons. But I will never understand how they could so happily kill so many innocent people. And thirdly-for all the lives lost afterwards-from all sides, from the so-called "War on Terrorism"
I'd like to suggest if you've read this far-you sit for a minute in silence, sending your thoughts to all the families left without a loved one. I am not religious, but I do believe in the power of thought. And, if you are one of those families-then you have my every sympathy.
Right, the contest...I want poems written about September the eleventh. But I want them to contain some element of hope. It's time to heal the world-I want to see how that can happen, how the fighting can stop-how September the eleventh left behind some sort of hope. You see how I mean? If not-read my poem, entitled 9/11 which is about how angry I got, but also about Lady Liberty, shining her light still.
allpoetry.com/poem/802603
I am allowing prewrites into this contest-but I want no more than three entries per person.
I do not want Internet talk, or sticky caps
and I WILL NOT tolerate any sort of abuse towards people, no prejudism, the world needs to pull together if we are to survive not attack one another through violence, or words.
Prizes
1st-400 + Gold + 10 clicks in the featured box + applause
2nd-100 + Silver + applause
3rd-50 + Bronze +applause
4th, 5th, 6th, honourable mention. 10 points + applause
If you want to feature this contest-then please feel free. I want it to reach as many people as possible-yet I have put most of my points up as award. Featurers that reach the featured box will receive three comments on their poetry-an applause, and a mention on here-please im me and let me know you've featured it. I don't want this to just be a contest-but rather a chance for us all to join together. To think of what evil the world contains-and do what we can to stop it, even if that is just accepting everybody we meet, no matter race, religion, age, sex, etc etc etc. Let's cut out prejudism.
Thanks for reading

~~~~Edit~~~~
just to let you know this is being judged! I am overblown by the amount of entries I have received, and it just goes to show how much we all care-how many people it affected! I am half way through the judging, but having started a new job today-I am too tired to carry on! Sorry! Will have another go tomorrow.
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on September 14, 2004
- Rewards: Gold: 400
- Final notes: Honourable mentions:
Dies Iraq Glacian
Let's Roll Melphleg
9/11 Tragedy-A reminder-CVmvMeekin
Again, a massive thank you to you all for entering this contest. It was the most successful one I've done-and shows me that people DO still care, there is still love in the human hearts. Something worth remembering in this bleak time of war and terrorism.
I read all poems, though I am sorry I did not comment on all of them. I judged on emotion, form, grammar and spelling. Gave marks out of 30 for each poem, and these are the ones that came out top. Sorry I couldn't reward you all-as they are all wonderful!
Oh, I didnt realise this was a contest. But I do respect the thought of a 9/11 contest and will be back later to enter later, right now I'm a little busy and wouldnt be able to put time into it.
Thank you for running such a sweet and kind contest.
With love,
Criss -
yea i know its not the best poem for the contest... but i think its good... its just a poem that i wrote from the point of view of someone who has passed on and is talking to the ones they left behind... I also think that this contest is a great idea! Even if you are not American. Thank you for starting it
-
I have no opinion about 9/11. I almost had an aunt die there. It was a tragic thing that happened, but I have no feeling towards it. Drop the prejudice? I hope we can do so for the ones who did this.
-
It's very very sad that you even have to write the first apologetic paragraph. Human is human no matter what country. I know 'Sept 11' is a hot topic soley because it's American, but I hope you feel your compassion with every human ache and tragedy that occurs in every country. Russia is at the worst at this moment.
-
I'm not sure if I could enter one, since it's a hard topic to write on because of trying to write about something that affected so many people. I still respect the idea and am glad you have got lots of entrants.
-
I would like to say thank you, for your thoughts and concers. People forget, tragedy affects people no matter where it happens. Simalar to music, like the Beatles were so popular here and there. There is no boundaries, no lines drawn to separate humanity. I'm proud to have met you
I will be honored to join you're contest.
God bless you and all
^pretty emotional, may cause certain people to cry. -
this contest is a very fine tribute to all those people who lost loved ones or who are simply haunted by those events and images
. I am English and still those events rocked my world to the very core, it was more like a movie set` rather than real life !!! ... if those events did not effect you ? .. then you are not human.
thank you for sharing
good luck to everyone
-
yes...I do feel compassion to every human who has to suffer, and yes, my thoughts are very much in Russia at the moment. The tears have fallen for them, as I'm sure they will continue to do so.
-
thank you for the link. Beautiful tribute to a beautiful nation, they should ALL be marked as heros! Yes, it brought tears to my eyes
-
thank you for this comment. It meant a lot.
-
This is such a sweet, cool idea!!! I think it's really nice of you, being English to want to support us Americans and remember those who aren't even from your country but still died. Way to go! I hope I can write something!
September
September the 10th
is the day before
September the 11th.
Also it is two days
before September 12th.
It is a month away
from August 11th.
Poetry - in memory,
free to roam the thoughts,
of all who died, not just this time,
but all that have been killed,
in the name of God,
in no name whatsoever.
And those who yet
will lose their lives
in a war that walks
along insanity's bed.
-
Thanks for the honorable mention. Congrats to the winners, too!!!
-
congratulations to everyone who took part in this touching contest
... 9/11 made the world united again ... lets hope it stays that way.
-
Congrats to the winners
