welcome to another DARK contest! my 23rd to be exact! this contest opens the door to my 24th contest that i have been waiting to host just as itz been stated on my author's page for months. you can read what it says to help you somewhat prepare for it. once itz posted, then i will finally change the wording on my page.
now let's get to this contest. many who have read the rules from my other contests realize that they're not for everyone, even though i encourage all to enter. most (not all) require a challenge to be met. this is a contest that will require you to meet a challenge if you choose to enter. september is my anniversary month of theDARK1. theDARK1 will have been on this site for a year as an alter ego. this will require two parts in one; part essay and part poem format. both must be typed as one entry. you may insert several blank lines or something that suggest a breaking point between the two. it doesn't matter which one comes first, you decide.
requirements for the poem:
must be an anniversary poem to me in any style and form you prefer (of course i shouldn't have to mention that i need to see my name in your poem, but i will so there's no confusion).
requirements for the essay:
minimum of three paragraphs in length (you can determine the length of each). the essay must address one of the following (the choice has no bearing on winning);
1) the effects that theDARK1 may have and/or had on you (good and/or bad)
2) the writing style of theDARK1s poetry--if you like it, despise it or a little of both.
3) do you have or do you want an alter ego. in addition, must include why or why not.
4) any combination of the above.
of course there are no DARK requirements that must be fulfilled in either segment (even though the poem must be personal to me so i am sure i will see my name at least once). there will be some people that will think i like to see my name! you're right, hehehe!
if you have any questions concerning this contest, please make them as a comment to this contest and i will answer in a reply. this should be done in case others have the same question.
you will have plenty of time for your minds to get in a creative cycle as i will close this contest around the end of september 2004.
guess itz time for some rules.
1. no pre-writes (if i did this, it wouldn't be a personal invitation to a contest from theDARK1).
2. one entry per poet.
3. any style/any form (length is not a problem...do what you want to do and how you want to do it...as long as you comply with the other rules too).
4. you must meet the requirement as listed in the body of the contest.
5. closing date will be september 26-30(somewhere in this time frame), 2004 at midnight (eastern time zone).
6. i will comment on every entry (it could be during or after the contest closes for judging).
as itz always my custom to wish everyone luck here as i will not do it in the comments to your writes!
btw, i will make comments to all entries once this contest closes!

You always seem to have the coolest ideas for contests my friend. I will be putting on the thinking cap for this one. I can’t guaranty an entry from me , but I will most assuredly attempt it.

johnrdavies, i thank you for the compliment. if you think this is a cool contest, wait until my 24th. itz completed for posting, but i have to wait until i end my 22d and 23d contest for itz based on the previous 23 contests. however, the people who do enter this contest and read my author's page about the theme for the 24th contest will definitely be well prepared for it. hope to see you and others enter this and the upcoming challenges being tasked for completion, DARK.

This will definitely be a challenge but one I think I will enjoy taking on. I do have one question regarding the categories for the essay. Can you mix them up and do all of them in one essay or do you have to stick to just one category. I have a habit when given categories to choose from to incorporate all that are given into my work somehow and I saw where that could be done here to. I hope you get a lot of entries and Happy Early DARK Anniversay!

melissa, great question(which any question is great when asked...or it could never be answered). with that great question, i went back to the contest and added an additional bullet that will allow any combination to happen. i will also think about adding it to my next contest which will be posted within minutes of awarding the trophies in this one. even though i doubt allowing all of the choices to be used in the next one might not work, but i will review it to see. however, it works in this contest for sure and if you want to incorporate all of them then go for it, luvya, DARK.

Good luck with the contest hun, you always have amazing ones. I'll see what I can do, but with school started up again, I might go insane writing an essay that I don't have to At least I have lots of time to think about it, so keep your fingers crossed that school doesn't make it impossible for me to find time to write
