I was thinking, recently, how much excellent poetry on AP I miss out on just because I don’t know where it is or how to find it. And, I thought how nice it would be if we could all share information (about a fantastic poem we’d run across) with one another.
So, that’s where the idea for this contest was born. And, though it is a bit complicated and strange, this is how I’m doing this one:
- You CAN NOT enter a poem of your own. (Yeah, you heard me.)
- Contestants will enter the best poem they’ve ever found on AP by ANOTHER POET.
- Entries will have, as their title, the name of the poem.
- In the body of the entry (where you’d normally place your poem), contestants must place a link to the poem they are submitting, the title of the poem, and the author’s name. (NOTE: Due to the large number of entries that don't have actual links, I am amending the rules such that failure to provide an actual link will result in disqualification of the entry. Please cut and paste the link from the navigation bar of your browser rather than typing it in. I want readers to be able to navigate to the poems by clicking on the links.)
- Addendum rule: I have discovered that only preferred and uber members are able to insert working links. Therefore, I am asking that any contestants who are not able to post a working link make note of this fact in their author’s comments. You may also make a notation in the body of your entry that a working link will be added to the comment section. I will take responsibility for placing a working link there as soon as I can.
- Winning submissions will earn points for the person who submitted the selected poem, and the author of each of the three winning poems will have his/her poem featured for 10 views in the "Feature" box.
- I want to read the best poem you’ve ever seen here on AP. So, dive into your bookmarks and give me your favorites.
- Limited to 2 entries per person.
- Duplicate submissions aren’t allowed, so please be sure the poem you’re nominating hasn’t already been entered. In cases of duplication, only the first entry of a poem will be considered.
Now for the pay-off:
1st place – 300 points + gold trophy
2nd place – 100 points + silver trophy
3rd place – 50 points + bronze trophy
Remember: The winning poems will also be featured for 10 views as a tribute to their authors.

First, I want to express my deep appreciation to all those who eagerly submitted their favorite poems and poets to the contest….so eagerly, in fact, that the contest closed due to having reached its quota of 60 entries after little more than 24 hours! What wonderfully generous folks AP has on its roster – poets who love poetry, no matter whose pen it springs from.
Second, I just want to tell you how difficult this was to judge. The staggering numbers of wonderful poems I was able to read made this simultaneously an unbelievable pleasure and pure agony for me. I have tried to be as fair as possible, but I wish I could have given far more prizes than the three offered. Instead I must settle for adding two “honorable mentions” to the winners’ circle.

This is an awesome contest, MuseStalker.. I have so many great poems in mind... too bad there are only two entries per person, though. ::shrugs:: that's okay! it's a good way to get down to the best two I've ever heard! again, great idea.. will be looking for my favorite soon!

A great idea for a contest, now I have to go wreck my brains to figure out which of the fantastic poets I should nominate here.
I will bookmark your contest page and let you know very soon who I nominate, but this is gonna be really hard lol cause so many are fantastic writers, and like yourself and many others I have only read a very small percent of the work on here.

Can you submit stories as well as poems? Or one poem and one story? Or what? I know a series that's really good....

Now that sounds very interesting , but oh my gosh....I have so many favorite poets that have writtten so many favorite poets....and yes , you are on that list too...I forgot the name of your poem , but it is the one where you returned to school and there was an empty seat , for a young man eas killed ...and then there is one about your father....and one that talks about you writing and your son strumming his guitar<------and now he bites eh?
It would be sooo hard for me to choose , but maybe...if I have time. I have an 8year old blabbermouth here with me for abit of a vacation , so it is hard to get on here and concentrate

Lol. I just found out I've been put in there by someone, and I'm so proud puffs up chest and struts around then deflates and giggles don't judge me school starts in like 30min so im uber tired/hyper at the same time

Please, please let me know if I did it correctly. I am not able to get on here often due to scheduling conflicts. I do know that these two ladies are extremely impressive with their writing as many follow them already. I am surprised that no one has nominted them yet for they are true talents. This is a different type of contest that I have never seen before, but I do think it's a good one. Thank you for being so thoughtful and creative to boot.

However, the very thought that you even remember my poems makes me the proudest winner in this contest. Thank you for all your kind words and support. They have carried me through the darkness many times, sweets.

I just found this contest by accident from a comment. I was going to submit a poem by a favorite poet of mine. Since I won't be able to do it in contest form, I will do it here. I will also add another poet or two as a comment(s) to your contest since that won't be breaking the rules. Plus it will give those poets more recognition. Good luck with judging a creative contest.

hmm, I just have one question: Can't everybody just enter a poem by say... Manicmuze or mtpoet? If you can enter anybody's poetry then it has nothing to do with personal skill and only the skill to choose the best poem.
