what is DARKness? (contest)

what is DARKness? (contest)

you are cordially invited to participate in my 22d contest!

itz been some time since i have had a contest (especially when i average almost two a month...but that average is dropping since i have been away). can you believe a poem out of thin air and now has spun into a contest as well. we all have our own notions what DARKness can be or itz effects. this is your time to bare all about your conception or representation of 'what is DARKness?'

you must use the word 'DARKness' thirteen times in the body of your work just as it appears here, no more-no less.

i am away during the week for work. i will be in a wedding(not mine, hehehe...no steady love in my life any more for that) on aug 15'04, a concert on aug 21'04 and away at kentucky lake on the last weekend of aug '04. that's why i have penned in labor day for the close of this contest and most likely when i will do most of my commenting. if i can find the time to do it before the closing of the contest, i will...but there are no guarantees that will happen

#####note: my 23d contest is posted and at the close of this contest and the one just posted, the 24th contest will be only minutes away!

guess itz time for some rules.

1. no pre-writes (if i did this, it wouldn't be a personal invitation to a contest from theDARK1).

2. one entry per poet.

3. any style/any form (length is not a problem...do what you want to do and how you want to do it...as long as you comply with the other rules too).

4. you must meet the requirement as listed in the body of the contest.

5. closing date will be september 4, 2004 at midnight (eastern time zone).

6. i will comment on every entry (it could be during or after the contest closes for judging).

as itz always my custom to wish everyone luck here as i will not do it in the comments to your writes!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on September 6, 2004
  • Rewards: Gold: 322
  • Final notes:
there were so many quality entries. i always try to narrow it down to a third of the entries for the prizes (or the top ten in my contest). i finally chose eight poems (which was no easy task) out of the contest to contend for the trophies. i will say that there were some poems that automatically took themselves out of the running for the rules were not followed.

many overlooked this line in the body of the contest:

"you must use the word 'DARKness' thirteen times in the body of your work just as it appears here, no more-no less."

here is the rule to refer you to the body of the contest:

"4. you must meet the requirement as listed in the body of the contest."

i know that rules were meant to be broken, but i chose not to do that with so many quality entries. normally i don't applaud those that go against the rules, but i will bend them for this contest since the entries were so impressive. i will have to review the following nine once again before i make my final decision. this one will be super tough as i wish i could award all of the poems selected a trophy.

note: i could have just overlooked the entries that failed to follow the rules, but i feel that a person/poet should still have a critique of his/her work if submitted in my contest. there were some that required more time than others when pointing out what should have been done. i do thank everyone for participating.

    Hey There,

Awesome idea for a contest... it's a very good question. To me, darkness is a tough thing to describe and many different approaches could be taken. I think you'll get some very unique entries to this contest.. it will be tough to judge. Good luck to all who enter and to theDARK1 with judging =)

let me add this comment to the contest:

if for some reason that you might not have followed the rules, your poem is only eliminated from a trophy once the target closing date has been achieved. so this gives you time to go back over your work to ensure you have complied with the rules. maybe some of your fellow poets might even point it out to ensure that your work was not done in vain. good luck everyone.

I have missed your contests. I will surely be back in the morning to enter, as I do my best writing in the morning while I have my coffee. It is a great way to start my day and I have plenty to say on this subject so I will definitely be back.

DARKness in the mind can exclude all luminosity
It’s perhaps like a solitary winter night
When even the moon is a dour shade of blue, or bloated one.
Though physically you cannot have DARKness without light.
They define one another, like good and evil.

i'd finish this, but i didn't see your contest til now
and there isn't much time but it was a cool contest

ashley bright, you might want to check out the poem that gave me the idea for the contest. it actually recieved a trophy and was written within minutes of reading a contest. isn't it wild how one contest spurred another contest indirectly. thanks for the comment. here's the link: allpoetry.com/Poem/755854

i didn't know that there were this many entries in this contest when i logged on. i had to go take care of im's/author pages/response to comments and the time disappeared.

my first impression when coming in here; holy roly!

i have another screen name on here and i was pretty much taken care of his stuff today(actually yesterday now). I will be getting to all of these entries later today and/or tomorrow. i never expected this many entries. sometimes you people surprise me in an amazing way. my contests is comparable to the weather; it can never be predicted when it comes to participation. i do enjoy it to see that many have entered. i will return, DARK!

sometimes DARK can be annoying but i thrive on such things. i will be going through all of the entries and awarding the prizes sometime tonight and/or morning. thank you for enjoying the contest. there is still another one open, but itz plenty tough to do...i don't expect too many to enter. after that one, i will open three more which everyone will be eligible 2 out of 3 depending on the circumstances. hope you check them out, DARK.
