Why India, of all places?
-
Why not?

India is a remarkable and colourful country with many topics to write about - I have a few I could list but as that perhaps would lead other people in to writing about them without thinking I shall not.
-

Because not to many people have heard of Caddibarrawirracanna or wooloomooloo. So, India it is

India, home to over a billion people has a 5000 year old culture, It has one of the oldest civilisations, on the banks of the river Indus rose the Indus Valley civilisations one of the three great river civilisations in the world, Mohenjo daro is now in Pakistan but Harrappa is in India,
For thousand of years travellers and invaders both have come to india through the Khyber pass. all of them brought with them some of their culture language cuisine religion philosophy etc. India adopted all this and in return coloured and changed them with its own distinct colour and flavour. India is the birthplace of at least four religions, Hinduism, Budhhism, Jainism and Sikhism, but here other great religions of the world have fourished like Islam Christianity, Judaism, Zorastrianism, etc. A proof of the extreme tolerance of the indian people who take to heart and accept all that comes within its border. Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, Fire Temples, abound besides millenium old temples each of which is an architectural wonder. The Lotus Temple in Delhi is a modern architectural delight belonging to the Bahai community and one of the bahai's biggest places of worship. A place of peace to be visited and meditated in.
India has many languages and cultures in its 29 states and two people from two states speak a completely different langauge and have totally different culture. Every state also has its own dress, even if it is just the saree, it is worn differently say in bengal then is Gujurat.
Every state has its own cuisine too. Though people think that all india has is curry and the Taj Mahal it is a country rich in variety
Variety in flora and fauna Variety in seasons, variety in topography, On the North it is bounded by the world's highest mountain range the Himalayas, from the glaciers up on the icfy hamalayan peaks flows the Ganga and the Yamuna on to the Norther plains, The Ganga flows into the Bay of Bengal and Sunderbans the home of the Royal Bengal Tiger lies in its delta. In Bengal the Ganga is also joined by the Brahmaputra which flows from lake Mansarover in Tibet.
Also in the North, is Kashmir a state of great beauty though unfortunately in the past few years it is torn by insurgency. The North eastern States have their own beauty and diversity, the Indian Rhino comes from Assam, also there is the place with the highest rainfall in the world. The land of five rivers the Punjab has its tales of Romance, Heer Ranjha forever immortalised by Waris Shah in his poem Heer, Sohni Mahiwal, Sassi Punno to name a few. The deserts and fortresses of Rajasthan beckon thousands of visitors everty year to India, tales of valour and courage, of such Rajput as Prithviraj Chauhan. Also the true love story of Prithviraj Chaihan and Sanyukta is no less interesting than that of Lochinvar and his fair Ellen. Honour and Courage, were the qualities that seperated the valiant Rajputs from all others and tales of their bravery abound. Like do the tales of the first freedom fighters against the British, Tipu Sultan of Mysore and his father Hyder Ali, The Rani of Jhansi, etc.
From India came saint poets like Kabir Namdev, Surdas, etc. It is the place where the longest epic ever composed ; The Mahabharata originated. Yes and it is also the birth place of the zero and the numbers which we now use.
Most people think it is a pooor starving country, most people do not realise that an Australia is born in india every year and soemhow india does sustain this humongous population.
Todays India has the highest emerging middle class, its doctors engineers and IT professionals are respected for theri dedication and hard work all over the world, Microsoft corporation chose 400 year old historic Hyderabad with its domes and palaces in india for its first base outside the US.
a hundred poems could be written just on Hyderabad and its tales. Hyderabad itself is named after the name given to a village girl who married the prince of the Qutb Shahi dynasty and whose name was changed to the more royal one Hyder mahal, In Madhy pradesh the tales of love of Baz Bahadur and roopmati still echo among the ruins of Mandu.
Well if anyone needs help then drop by

I agree, this is interesting. You should be getting a lot of entries because of bunch of people join this site daily, though I don't know what their views are on India, and if they'd want to write about it, but I mean- who wouldn't. It sounds cool

I'm from India....... and so manyyy people have said in their comments that it's rich in diversity...........like culture, traditions, flora, fauna, dress, buildings, etc etc...... I wish the participants would write about all that; other than people sufferring from diseases and poverty .......there's more to India than just the Taj Mahal and it's 1 billion strong!!

Not that this is remotely important or has anything to do with this at all, but I just wanted to throw out a random comment regarding India: Indian chicks are hot. Damn, for some reason I have a thing for Indian babes. There was this hot chick in my class last semester named Kavita. Definately an Indian chick, but they're hard to find here in Florida. Anyway, I just felt like saying that. Good luck with this contest, and uh, heya ladies!!!

PeaceLink-creatively written! I thought I was taking a tour, with you as the confidante and tour guide.
It appears that you have a true understanding of this land and its people. Very impressive.
Thank you for taking out your time to give us a run-through. Warmly, CookieZeal/DB -
Congratulations to everyone who entered this contest. It began rather slowly but ended with a bang. The entries were varied and interesting - thanks to everyone for helping to make our Monthy contest a success.
