This is my first contest. I managed to get here because the girl that I give all my points away to, scaryXmissXmary, isn’t available to accept them for the time being.
Lets all take a moment to wish her well in her recovery and hope that she finds her inner peace in the not too distant future…
And now the contest….
I belong to Ayr, a small town on the west coast of Scotland. Almost everybody, the world over, has heard of Ayr because many have descendants from Ayr and the surrounding area, and then there’s the Scottish national poet, Rabbie Burns. Personally I don’t like Robert Burns, but that’s more of a who and what he was, rather than his talents as a poet/songwriter, but I feel I may have to mention him as he was Ayr / Scotland’s’ best import around the mid 1800’s…. anyway enough rambling….
Where do you come from?
Tell me in a poem of any form, but not tooo long, my medication doesn’t allow me a long attention span…
Mmmm - I feel good….
With a ‘Breath of fresh Ayr’
To start your day,
And honest men
Along the way,
Bonnie lasses
To help you stay,
Aye, Ayr’s the place,
To be today…

I would like your write to be in poetic form, but the actual form I leave to your decision,( but please short, sweet and direct is a preference).
This will be a quick contest in an attempt to promote spontaneity in poetry.
I can most times throw something of acceptable quality together within a few minutes normally about 10-15 minutes…ish at a push.
(There are witnesses on AP to confirm this so I’m not talking crap… )
I would like you to do a piece spontaneously, and without any rehashes / changes of it, to put up your FIRST ‘finished’ piece…
… And THEN to rewrite it, as you would like to see it completed.
Rules:
1. NO swearing ………….or it’s out of the contest ….
2. NO sex ………..I don’t see a need for it in this contest
3. I want ‘happy and proud to belong’ type of stuff, unless your not proud of your hometown, in which case you should contact your local authorities and complain to them…not me!
4. If you aren’t sure what I’m looking for IM me and an explanation will follow
5. If you don’t want to enter…...please stop reading, and carry on with whatever tickles your fancy……... and thanks for stopping by…

150 - 1st place
100 - 2nd place
50 - 3rd place
(Grand total of what points I have....except 2 )

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 29, 2003
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: sorry to have taken so long but personal things like deaths & funerals had to come first...
Out of the 24 entries only three had actually did what the contest asked for - two pieces by each writer, a few said that they didnt need to write a second because their first was the right one - this would probably be right enough if the contest only wanted or required one piece but it didn't so their first and only wasn't!!!
The three placed weren't neccessarily the ones I liked most but they did meet the requirements.
1st place goes to kittyKatFace for letting us know of Isreal and its peoples issues with life.
2nd place goes to Fleetingshadows for her emotional trip to Winnipeg (brought tears to a glass eye!)
3rd place goes to Di ivers for my trip (or two) to Ohio.

How the points work.
When you push the awards button. All three hundred points will go to the first place winner. They will give you 75 points for hosting the Contest. I hope you will have enough points left over to award the 100 point second place and the 50 point third place...as I found out in giving my first Contest that these points have to come out of ya own pocket if you have promised them as prizes. Fortunately for me I had the excess points to give out. But we live and learn. -
