October New Members- "Chin Up" Poetry Contest - Hosted by The AllPoetry Greeter Staff

Courtesy of AllPoetry and the Greeter Staff,
October ‘Chin Up’ Poetry Contest- NEW MEMBERS ONLY!

Using the words that follow this criteria, write a poem that can CHEER or INSPIRE someone over the brink of serious depression. It can encircle any kind of challenging event in one’s life, whether it be from not getting that important job , a love rejection, or overcoming some kind of sad or tragic life obstacle. This can be personal or narrative and it's very important to keep the themes from sinking. The idea is to make someone feel better with suggestion orand solution using your best descriptives. I’d prefer you to stay away from the greeting card sterile style. Prewrites are okay ( some chance that they have the required words!  and a maximum of 2 entries per author. Think and meditate before posting so you can get the best of your work!! You can do this!

Maximum length-24 lines! Any style or form.
Please-no obscene language or graphic sexual content! Mild bathroom humor, slang, streetlingo, colloquialisms, cliches are fine, long as they are tastefully and not wastefully  used.
Welcome -first time contestants!!  Thrill, entertain, and or make us laugh. Have fun!

First Place Gold Cup - 300 points
Second Place Silver Cup - 125  points
Third Place Bronze Cup - 80 points

Here are the words. You can find definitions of these in the

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 3, 2003
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
Every poem entered was WONDERFUL. I had to judge the ones who followed criteria and used the list of WORDS well, and then by the quality. Don't EVER feel defeat. Keep entering. I had to do that before I got my first. Your TRUE win isn't always about points and trophies, but about PERSISTANCE and open hearts.

Thank you all!! It was tougher than I thought.

Ohh this is a good one too Di! I remember the last one you did giving a list of words, I believe I won that one! woohoo!!!!! You do know how to make a challenge! Now - I'm wondering about that 'mild' bathroom humor! Caustic might fit... And they have to have two bellies? lol Great contest idea, Di, this should bring us some wonderful poetry!

It's not important to have them in the order listed, but that would be the way I would do it just to make sure that I got them in. It's artful either way.
